This book is appropriate for kindergarten and up. Mrs. Bear wants to make sure that she gives Mr. Bear something special for Valentine's Day even though they always sleep through it due to hibernation. This book is sweet and shows its readers that doing things for people, including surprises, is always special.

-Mrs. Bear

Very cute book on Valentine’s Day with fun valentines. This was confirmed by my 13 year old who also laughed. ( )

Mr. and Mrs. Bear were a devoted couple, but because their kind slept through the winter, they had never celebrated a Valentine's Day together. Determined to change this, Mrs. Bear set her alarm for the big day, and got up to make preparations: setting out summer honey and Crispy Critters, which Mr. Bear loved, and getting out the cards she had made before they began hibernating. But then, preparations all done, she found it very difficult to wake Mr. Bear...

The fourth seasonal holiday title I have read from author Eve Bunting and illustrator Jan Brett, following upon their Scary, Scary Halloween, St. Patrick's Day in the Morning and The Mother's Day Mice, this sweet book pairs a delightful, heartwarming story with adorable illustrations. I was simply charmed by the conclusion, in which Mr. Bear turns out to have had Valentine's Day plans of his own! Recommended to picture-book readers looking for sweet Valentine's Day stories. ( )

Mr. And Mrs. Bear have always missed Valentines day because they were hibernating. This year the bears set alarms to be sure to share a wonderful surprise together and celebrate their love. This story shows love, family, and dedication. The moral is a great one to learn, and the pictures are fun and engaging. ( )

Mrs. Bear wakes up from hibernation early in order to plan a surprise for Mr. Bear, and he has a surprise waiting for her as well. This is a sweet book for young children, that can teach them about the celebration of Valentine's Day. Parents can also talk about love and kindness with their children. ( )

A very sweet book about a married bear couple who wakes up from hibernating long enough to share a nice Valentine's Day together. Without being mushy, this book is a good one to illustrate kindness and consideration within a marriage. ( )
