I love this book! We all have our grumpy moments, but we can choose to get over it and enjoy the day. This is a great way to discuss those feelings of grumpiness with a little one. ( )

When Bird woke up, he was grumpy. But his friends helped him have a better day. He has a lot of friends.

This is a nice book to encourage kids to live in the moment. If you feel grumpy, go ahead. But as soon as you don’t, roll with that, too. This was my 4yo’s favorite book when he was 3. He’s graduated on past board books now, but I still read it to him sometimes. ( )

Grumpy Bird is about a bird who wakes up one day and is in an awful mood where everyone and everything bothers him. He was even too grumpy to fly, so he decided to walk that day. The more Bird walked, the more animals joined him. Then he noticed that the other animals did everything he would do and his mood changed. He then invited everyone to join him for a snack.

Bird wakes up feeling grumpy. Too grumpy to eat or play -- too grumpy even to fly. "Looks like I'm walking today," says Bird. He walks past Sheep, who offers to keep him company. He walks past Rabbit, who also could use a walk. Raccoon, Beaver, and Fox join in, too. Before he knows it, a little exercise and companionship help Bird shake his bad mood. ( )

A grumpy bird goes for a walk and gets a lot of unwanted company. His company follows him wherever he goes and does whatever he does. Eventually he sees the fun in having company and forgets about being grumpy. ( )

I had hopes for this.....I mean who hasn't been grumpy before? And sometimes it takes random things (like sheep flying) to get you happy. And friends get you out of a bad mood. However, I did not love this like I wanted to =(

I wished for more of a narrative arc--the bird started out grumpy and then all of a sudden everyone was having a goofy fun time for some reason--but really the latter is just as true to human psychology (to say nothing of that of grumpy birds), and more importantly this is a board book and doesn't have room for many pages. A great story about getting bird out of a funk. Very relatable for kids and parents. The illustrations are fun and colorful, I just wish the library hadn't put a pocket on the last page. It doesn't cover any major parts of the illustration but I still found it frustrating. ( )

Really cute book which tells the tale of grumpy bird. How he woke up grumpy, but with the help of friends, became happy! Easy quick book for toddlers or beginning readers. ( )

Jeremy Tankard's story let the children know that it is okay to have a bad days just like the bird. It shows that children have feelings also like everyone else. That tomorrow can be a better day for learning. ( )

"When Bird woke up, he was grumpy. He was too grumpy to eat. He was too grumpy to play. In fact, he was too grumpy to fly. 'Looks like I'm walking today,' said Bird." And walk he does, encountering a succession of friends, each of whom join him on his stroll. Will Bird stay grumpy, despite his many cheerful followers, or will his sense of fun assert itself...?

Jeremy's Tankard's debut picture-book, Grumpy Bird offers an entertaining look at an experience we have all had, at one time or another. Sometimes we're grumpy for no good reason, and our mood has to run its course. I appreciated the fact that Bird's friends didn't try to cheer him up, that they simply accompanied him on his journey. That made the conclusion, in which Bird rediscovers his will to fly, all the more satisfying. The bright illustrations are eye-catching, and will hold young readers' attention. All in all, I found this an appealing little book, and intend to seek out the next - Boo Hoo Bird. ( )

Bird wakes up one morning to find himself in a very bad mood. He is so grumpy that he decides he cannot even fly, so he will just walk. As he walks he collects a few friends and realizes that the company of friends and exercise have made him feel better. People often have unpleasant feelings and just dwell in them, but this book teaches children and adults alike that there are ways to make oneself feel better.

Bird wakes up one morning feeling rather grumpy. He decides to walk instead fly. In doing so, he walks by his friends, all of whom want to join in, and pretty soon they discover they are all having fun. ( )

A bird wakes up one morning feeling grumpy; too grumpy to do anything except walk. On his walk his friends ask him what he is doing and he replies "walking". They follow him and copy him until eventually he finds himself having fun and is no longer grumpy.

Very cute book. Grumpy Bird is having a bad day and while he is walking (not wanting to fly because he is so grumpy) his friends start to follow him. They stop when he stops, jump when he jumps, and so on. Grumpy bird forgets he is having a bad day because he is having so much fun with his friends. I think would be great to read for kids to see that it is okay to be grumpy/sad some days, we all have a bad day now and again. Great illustrations. Multicultural. ( )

Bird wakes up grumpy! He's so grumpy he doesn't even want to fly so he walks. Sheep wants to come along and joins. Then Rabbit tags along. And Racoon, until all the animals are following Grumpy Bird. They Walk when he walk, and jumps when he jumps until Grumpy Bird realizes he's not so grumpy anymore.

A very cute board book, aimed at teaching kids it's okay to feel grumpy because cheering up is the best part. The illustrations are very vivid and convery Grumpy Bird's emotions well: The text is very smartly written and even has a little sarcasm so he sounds like we all sound when we get grumpy. ( )

One of my favourite books. It was interesting to hear the different predictions, insights and connections by children from age 4 to 12. ( )
