Summer on the run

The year is 1931, and thirteen-year-old Douglas has gotten himself mixed up with local rumrunners, who carry liquor across the Detroit River from Windsor into the United States. Now, despite all his sister's efforts to keep him safe, he is wanted by the police. To add to that, their father is gone and their mother has just lost her job. In an attempt to keep one step ahead of the authorities, mother and children leave home to camp out on Point Pelee for the summer. The three settle into a comfortable rhythm until Douglas and Doris hear that a man who looks like their father has been seen in a nearby town. In an effort to find him, they stow away on a boat, only to discover that the danger is far greater than either had ever imagined
