Ottawa, Canada, 1934. Seventeen-year-old Frances McFadden is chosen to work for the Bank of Canada, where she comes to wield tremendous power. In 1939 Francis is sent on a secret mission to Warsaw, where the Polish gold reserves tempt a rapacious neighbor.
