THE "MAGAZINE OF NATURAL HISTORY," AND "NATURALIST."

PHOENIX-LIKE, the old "Magazine of Natural History is once more resuscitated, and hand-in-hand with "The Naturalist," both I well know long valued by many, spreads her pages for the contributions of old and new friends. The value of the future career of the two combined depends upon them.

The following letter, which I have since had permission to publish, explains itself.

"Dear Sir,—I have seen with regret the announcement on the wrapper of THE NATURALIST, of the discontinuance of that publication. I hope this determination is not final and irrevocable; or, at least, should your resolution be fixed to retire personally from the editorship, some arrangement may be made that so useful a Serial should not wholly lapse and become extinct. I cannot help thinking that there is room and requirement for such a periodical, which tends to excite and foster a love of Nature, and of natural science, amongst a class of persons who have no other medium of communication so well adapted to express their knowledge and their wants, and to assist them in the prosecution of their enquiries. For such persons, the are too profound, and even the exclusive. I hope you will kindly pardon the liberty I have taken in addressing you upon this subject, but the interest which I take in it must be my excuse.
