Mr. Jarrett from the committee to whom was referred yesterday, the bill from the House of Representatives, entitled An act confirming the proceedings of the commissioners of Pike county,' reported said bill with amendments, which were read. Mr. Murray from the committee to whom was referred on the 6th inst. the petition of Peter Ent and others, reported a bill, entitled An act authorizing Peter Ent, Christian Brobst and William Brewer to improve and occupy a certain sand bar or island in the north east branch of the river Susquehanna; which was read the first time. Mr. I. Weaver from the committee on claims, to whom was referred on the 6th inst, the petition of Eleanor Foy, widow of John Foy deceased, praying that she may be placed on the pension list, on account of her husband's death, which took place December 28, 1814, while he was in the service of the United States as a militia man drafted from the county of Philadelphia, made report, which was read as follows, viz. That the service and death of John Foy are satisfactorily proved by certificates, one from his colonel John Thompson, the other from his captain Michael Knor, and they consider the case of his widow as an unfortunate one claiming the commisseration of every feeling mind and deserving relief. But as her husband was called into, and died in the service of the United States, the committee cannot think that the case of his widow should be provided for by this state, and more especially, as the congress have power to provide for calling forth the militia to repel invasions,' (and in this case the power was exercised under its authority) it appears to be their duty not only to pay the debts' contracted, but to provide for the losses and damages sustained in consequence. The committee therefore offer the following resolution for consideration of Senate, viz. Resolved, That the claim of Eleanor Foy be dismissed, and that she have leave to withdraw her documents.
