Mr. Beale presented a petition from sundry inhabitants of Farmanagh and Milford townships, remonstrating against the division of Mifflin county; and

The same was read, and laid on the table.

Mr. Jarrett from the committee to whom was referred on the 8th instant, the petition of John Snyder, on leave given, reported a bill entitled

An act to authorize John Snyder of Northampton county, his

heirs and assigns to erect and maintain a wing-dam in the river Lehigh under certain restrictions ;' which was read the first time. The bill, entitled

An act for the relief of Thomas Curtis, was read the third time, and

Resolved, That this bill pass."

Ordered, That the clerk present the said bill to the House of Representatives for concurrence.

The bill from the House of Representatives, entitled

A supplement to the act, entitled, an act authorizing the governor to appoint commissioners to view and lay out a state road from Carlisle in Cumberland county to Littleton, in Bedford county,' was read the third time, and

Resolved, That this bill pass.

Ordered, That the clerk return said bill to the House of Representatives with information that Senate have passed the same with amendments, in which the concurrence of that house is requested.

The bill, entitled

An act to cede to the United States the jurisdiction over a piece of land near Pittsburg,' was read the second time as reported by a committee of the whole yesterday.

Section 1. being under consideration,

To amend the same by adding to the end thereof, the following words: so far as may be necessary for the conducting and transacting of business on the part of the United States,' and On the question,

The Senate resolved itself into a committee of the whole, Mr. Smith, in the chair, on the bill, entitled

The Senate resumed the second reading and consideration of the bill from the House of Representatives, entitled

An act confirming the proceedings of the commissioners of the county of Pike.'

Whereupon,

A motion was made by Mr. Frailey and Mr. Morgan,

That said bill be recommitted to a special committee, which was agreed to, and

Ordered, That Mr. Jarrett, Mr. Reed and Mr. I. Weaver be the committee.

THURSDAY, January 11, 1816.

Mr. Lowrie presented from William B. Forster for the use of the table of Senate, a plan of the town of Lawrenceville on the river Allegheny; which was laid on the table.

Mr. Murray presented a petition from Charles Maus and John Solomon, praying to be authorized to dig a race across the public highway; and

The same was read and referred to Mr. Murray, Mr. Shoemaker and Mr. Maghee, with leave to report by bill or otherwise. Mr. Jarrett from the committee to whom was referred yesterday, the bill from the House of Representatives, entitled

An act confirming the proceedings of the commissioners of Pike county,' reported said bill with amendments, which were read.

Mr. Murray from the committee to whom was referred on the 6th inst. the petition of Peter Ent and others, reported a bill, entitled

An act authorizing Peter Ent, Christian Brobst and William Brewer to improve and occupy a certain sand bar or island in the north east branch of the river Susquehanna; which was read the first time.

Mr. I. Weaver from the committee on claims, to whom was referred on the 6th inst, the petition of Eleanor Foy, widow of

John Foy deceased, praying that she may be placed on the pension list, on account of her husband's death, which took place December 28, 1814, while he was in the service of the United States as a militia man drafted from the county of Philadelphia, made report, which was read as follows, viz.

That the service and death of John Foy are satisfactorily proved by certificates, one from his colonel John Thompson, the other from his captain Michael Knor, and they consider the case of his widow as an unfortunate one claiming the commisseration of every feeling mind and deserving relief. But as her husband was called into, and died in the service of the United States, the committee cannot think that the case of his widow should be provided for by this state, and more especially, as the congress have power to provide for calling forth the militia to repel invasions,' (and in this case the power was exercised under its authority) it appears to be their duty not only to pay the debts' contracted, but to provide for the losses and damages sustained in consequence. The committee therefore offer the following resolution for consideration of Senate, viz.

Resolved, That the claim of Eleanor Foy be dismissed, and that she have leave to withdraw her documents.

Ordered, To lie on the table.

An act to extend the act, entitled, an act to improve the breed of sheep in certain counties in this commonwealth to the county of Erie,' was read the third time, and

Resolved, That this bill pass.

Ordered, That the clerk return said bill to the House of Representatives with information that Senate have passed the same with amendments, in which the concurrence of that house is requested.

The amendments were to include the counties of Bucks, Westmoreland and Tioga in the provisions of said bill.
