So it was determined in the negative.

The title being under consideration,

A motion was made by Mr. Lowrie and Mr. Rogers,

To postpone the further consideration thereof for the present, for the purpose of introducing a new section to be called Section 2. in the words following, to wit.

And be it further enacted, &c. That the subscriptions and payments authorized to be made by this act, shall for every share subscribed and paid, vest in this commonwealth all the rights, estates and emoluments appertaining to a share or shares held by individual stockholders.

On the question,

The clerk of the House of Representatives being introduced, presented an extract from the journal of that House, which was read as follows, viz.

In the House of Representatives, January 8, 1816. 'Resolved, That a committee be appointed, in conjunction with a committee already appointed by the Senate, to examine and report whether any, and if any, what measures are necessary for the better preservation and increase of the library belonging to the two Houses. And

Ordered, That Messrs. Sutherland, Conyngham and J. J. Wallis, be a committee for the purpose therein expressed.'

Agreeably to order,

The Senate resolved itself into a committee of the whole, Mr. Shearer in the chair, on the bill from the House of Representatives, entitled

A supplement to the act, entitled, an act authorizing the governor to appoint commissioners to view and lay out a state road from Carlisle in Cumberland county to Littleton, in Bedford county.'

And after some time,

The committee rose and reported said bill with amendments. which were read.

Adjourned until 10 o'clock to-morrow morning,

TUESDAY, January 9, 1816,

Mr. Murray presented the petition of sundry inhabitants of Lack township praying, that in case a law is passed to divide Mifflin county, the said towship may not be included within the bounds of the new county; and

Said petition was read, and

Ordered, To lie on the table.

Mr. Beale presented two petitions of similar tenor, from sundry inhabitants of Mifflin county, praying for a division of said county; and

The same were read, and laid on the table.

Mr. Beale presented a petition from sundry inhabitants of Mifflin and Cumberland counties, praying for a division of Mifflin

county, provided a certain portion of Cumberland may be annexed to the part to be taken from Mifflin county; and

The same was read and referred to a committee of the whole when they shall have under consideration the bill to which it relates.

Mr. Beale also presented a memorial from sundry inhabitants of Mifflin county, residing above the long narrows, approbating a division of said county; and the same was read, and referred to a committee of the whole when they shall have under consideration the bill to which it relates.

Mr. Welles presented a petition from sundry inhabitants of Bradford county, praying that a bounty of 50 dollars may be paid for each wolf or panther killed within this commonwealth; and

The same was read, and referred to Mr. Welles, Mr. Shannon and Mr. Power.

Mr. Morgan presented the petition of John Ashmead, master warden of the port of Philadelphia, stating that the provision made in the act of the 25th March, 1814, for the support of the warden office, will terminate on the 31st March 1816; and praying that the legislature will make some further appropriation for the support of the office; and

Said petition was read and referred to Mr. Morgan, Mr. Frailey and Mr. Reed.

Mr. Jarrett from the committee to whom was yesterday referred the petition of sundry inhabitants of the borough of Easton, on leave given, reported a bill, entitled

An act for the regulation of the market in the borough of Easton in the county of Northampton, and for other purposes therein mentioned;' which was read the first time.

The bill, entitled

A further supplement to the act, entitled, an act to enable the governor to incorporate a company for making a turnpike road from Middletown to Harrisburg,'" was read the third time, and Resolved, That this bill pass.

Ordered, That the clerk present said bill to the House of Representatives for concurrence.

The bill from the House of Representatives, entitled

A supplement to an act, entitled, an act authorizing the governor to appoint commissioners to view and lay out a state road from Carlisle in Cumberland county, to Littleton in Bedford county,' was read the second time as reported by a committee of the whole yesterday, considered by section and agreed to.

Ordered, That said bill be prepared for a third reading.
Agreeably to order,

The Senate resolved itself into a committee of the whole, Mr. Shannon in the chair, on the bill, entitled

An act to cede to the United States the jurisdiction over a piece of land near Pittsburg.'

And after some time,

The committee rose and reported said bill with one amendment, which was read.

The Senate resolved itself into a committee of the whole, Mr. Shoemaker in the chair, on the bill from the House of Representatives, entitled

An act confirming the proceedings of the commissioners of the Dounty of Pike.'

Ordered, That the committee of the whole sit again to-morrow. The clerk of the House of Representatives being introduced, presented for concurrence a bill, entitled

• An Act concerning the patenting of lands;' which was read the first time.

The rule for going into committee of the whole being in this case dispensed with, the bill, entitled

An act for the relief of Thomas Curtis, was read the second time, considered by section and agreed to.

Ordered, That said bill be transcribed for a third reading.

Mr. Herrington and Mr. Holgate a committee from the House of Representatives being introduced, informed Senate that the chamber of that house is now ready to receive the members of the Senate in order to go into a joint meeting for the purpose of electing a state treasurer for the ensuing year.
