CHAP. CCXVIII.

An ACT to incorporate the Bridgwater and Litchfield brench turnpike company. Passed April 9, 1811. of Litchfield, on the turnpike road called the Minden and Utica turnpike; running from thence a westerly course into the town of Bridgwater, to intersect the Paris and Bridgwater turnpike a little easterly of Monroe's tavern in Bridgwater, in Oneida county, on the most direct and eligible route, to be laid out by commissioners to be appointed as is herein after directed, shall be and hereby are created a body politic and corporate, in Their style fact and in name, by the name and style of "the presiand corpo- dent, directors and company of the Bridgwater and rate rights. Litchfield branch turnpike company," and by that name they and their successors shall be persons in law capable of suing and being sued, pleading and being impleaded, answering and being answered unto, defending and being defended in all courts and places whatsoever, in all manner of actions, suits, complaints, matters and causes whatsoever, and by the same name and style shall be in law capable of purchasing, holding and conveying any estate, real and personal, for the use of the said corporation: Provided, That such estate, as well real as persona!, so to be purchased and held, shall be necessary to fulfil the intent of the corporation, and to no other purpose whatsoever.

II. And be it further enacted, That the stock of the said company hereby incorporated shall consist of three hundred and fifty shares, of twenty dollars each; and to receive that Abram Woodruff, Nicholas Randall and Eldad Corsbscrip- bet, shall be and are hereby appointed commissioners to receive subscriptions for the said stock in the manner directed in and by the act entitled "An act relative to turnpike companies," passed the thirteenth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and seven.

III. And be it further enacted, That the company hereby incorporated shall be entitled to exact and receive at the gate or turnpike to be erected on the said Rates of toll road, the following rates of toll, from all persons travelling and using the said road, that is to say: for every score of hogs or sheep, six cents; for every score of cattle, horses or mules, fourteen cents; for every chair, sulkey or chaise with one horse, nine cents; for every horse and rider, three cents; for every led or driven horse, two cents; for every cart drawn by one horse, four cents; for every chariot, coach, coachee or phaton, eighteen cents, or if drawn by four horses, twentyfive cents; for every stage-waggon or other four wheeled carriage drawn by two horses, mules or oxen, nine cents, and two cents for every additional horse, mule or ox; for every cart drawn by two oxen, nine cents, and two cents for every additional horse, mule or ox; for every sleigh or sled, four cents if drawn by two horses, mules or oxen, and in like proportion if drawn by a greater or less number of horses, mules or oxen.

IV. CHAP. CCXIX.

An ACT relative to the gaol liberties of the county of
Essex, and for other purposes

Passed April 9th, 1811. HEREAS it has been represented to the legislature that the gaol of the county of Essex is so situated that the extension of the liberties thereof beyond the limits now allowed by law, would greatly con duce to the ease and comfort of the prisoners who are or may be confined therein: Therefore,

liberties of the gaol of the said county at their discretion, provided the limits thereof shall not extend in any direction to a greater distance than half a mile from the court-house in the said county of Essex, any law to the contrary thereof notwithstanding.

II. And be it further enacted, That it shall be lawful, his mileage and it is hereby made the duty, after the passing of this fees from act, for the sheriff of said county of Essex to compute house his milage fees from the court-house in said county, any thing in any former law to the contrary notwithstanding.

CHAP. CCXX.

An ACT to establish the division line between the towns
of Bethlehem and Guilderland, in the county of Al-
bany.
Passed April 9, 1811.

E it enacted by the people of the state of NewYork, represented in Senate and Assembly, That the line lately run by John I. Evertson at the special instance of the supervisors of the towns of Bethlehem and

Guilderland, in the county of Albany, as the division 4. D. 1811. line between the said towns, pursuant to the act for erecting the said town of Guilderland into a separate town, shall be and is hereby declared to be the true division line between the said towns; and that a map of the survey thereof, made and subscribed by the said John I. Evertson, shall be filed in the office of the clerk of the county of Albany, and be conclusive evidence of the said line.

II. And be it further enacted, That the expenses of running the said line shall be equally divided between the aforesaid towns, and shall be assessed, levied and collected as part of the contingent charges of the said towns respectively.

CHAP. CCXXI.

An ACT to amend an act entitled "an act to incorporate the Ulster and Delaware first branch turnpike road company," passed March 9th, 1810.

CHAP. CCXXII.

An ACT to annex part of the town of Schuyler to the town of Herkimer. Passed April 9th, 1811.

E it enacted by the people of the state of New

York, represented in senate and assembly, That all that part of the town of Schuyler lying east of a line drawn from Joel Harvey's, beginning on the southeast corner of the said Joel Harvey's land, on the Steuben road, thence to the southwest corner of the town of Newport, shall, from and after the passing of this act, be annexed to and become a part of the town of Herkimer, any former law to the contrary notwithstanding.

An ACT to incorporate the Montgomery Manufactur ing Society. Passed April 9, 1811. HEREAS Benjamin Sears, Reuben Neely, William Eager, junior, and others, have presented their petition to the legislature, representing that they are desirous to establish a manufactory in the town Prearable of Montgomery, in the county of Orange, for the purpose of carrying on in their various branches the manufacturing of wool, cotton, flax and hemp, and the making of paper, or any or either of the commodities above mentioned, and praying for an act of incorporation the better to enable them to carry their said design into effect. And whereas the encouragement of manufactures in this state is deemed serviceable to the interests thereof: Therefore,

BE it enacted by the people of the state of NewYork represented in Senate and Assembly, That Benjamin Sears, Reuben Neely, John Blake, junior, James Montgom- Haight, William Eager, junior, John Miller, Charles facturing so Fowler, Alexander R. Thompson, Ezekiel Truesdell, David Ruggles, Peter A.
