Annual Report

OF THE

Committee on Waters

ANNUAL REPORT

OF THE

COMMITTEE ON WATER.

CITY OF ALLEGHENY, January 11th, 1883.

To the Honorable the Select and Common Councils:

GENTLEMEN-Your Committee on Water, in presenting their annual report for year 1882, respectfully state that during the year the pumping house, machinery, tank, etc., for supplying the hill districts with water, have been completed and are now in successful operation. We have also laid quite a large quantity of water pipe on the hill, which is supplying a large district, and it is only necessary to continue the laying of pipe as may be demanded by our citizens, to complete a long desired improvement.

The new boiler ordered for the Troy Hill Pumping House is now being put in position, and will in a short time be ready for service.

Your Committee have also ordered laid a considerable amount of water mains in different parts of the City to meet the demands for an increased supply, and are of the opinion that the work ordered will prevent further complaints of a short supply in the districts where the pipes are laid.

Your Committee have also taken prompt action in completing the digging of tunnel and laying of influent pipe for supplying the Water Works, and report the work as progressing satisfactorily, and will, if no unforeseen accident. occurs, be completed and in operation before Spring.

Your Committee have other needed improvements under consideration, such as laying a larger main from the Water Works to connect with the mains supplying the City, for the purpose of increasing the pressure of water, and also the adding of additional machinery to the Works as a reserve power in case of accidents; but as these matters will come before your honorable bodies in proper form during the incoming year, we deem it unnecessary to refer to it further.

For detailed information as to the work done, the expenditures and revenues of our Department, we respectfully refer you to the intelligent reports of the Superintendent of Water Works and Assessor of Water Rents which accompany this report.

Respectfully submitted.
