CHAP. LXVI.-An Act to amend section one hundred and ninety-nine of the Political Code, concerning the legal distances of this State.

[Approved February 15, 1878.]

The People of the State of California, represented in Senate and
Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Section one hundred and ninety-nine of the
Political Code is amended so as to read as follows:

199. From the county seat of Tuolumne County to SacTuolumne. ramento, one hundred miles; to Napa, one hundred and sixty-one miles; to Stockton, sixty-six miles; to San Quentin, one hundred and sixty-six miles.

CHAP. DCXXXIV.-An Act to amend certain sections of the
Political Code, to repeat certain other sections thereto.

[Approved April 1, 1878.]

The People of the State of California, represented in Senate and
Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Section three hundred and forty-three of the
Political.Code is amended to read as follows:

Designation 343: The number and designation of the civil executive and number officers are as follows: A Governor; a Private Secretary for executive the Governor, who is ex officio Clerk of the Board of Examiners; an Executive Clerk for the Governor who is ex officio Clerk of the State Board of Equalization; a LieutenantGovernor; a Secretary of State; a Deputy Secretary of State; a Book-keeper for the Secretary of State; two Recording Clerks for the Secretary of State; a Controller; a Deputy Controller; a Book-keeper for the Controller; three Clerks for the Controller; a Treasurer; a Deputy Treasurer; a Clerk for the Treasurer; an Attorney-General; a Clerk for the Attorney-General; a Surveyor-General; a Deputy Surveyor-General; one Clerk or the Surveyor-General; a Register of the State Land Office; a Deputy Register of the State Land Office; one Clerk for the Register; a Superintendent of Public Instruction; a Deputy for the Superintendent of Public Instruction; a Superintendent of State Printing; an Inspector of Gas Meters; a Vaccine Agent; an Insurance Commissionera Deputy for the Insurance Commissioner; three State Capitol Commissioners; four Port Wardens for the Port of San Francisco; a Port Warden for each port of entry, except San Francisco; three State Harbor Commissioners, three Harbor Commissioners for the Port of Eureka; six Pilots for each harbor where there is no Board of Pilot Commissioners; three members of the Board of Pilot Commissioners for the Port of San Francisco, Mare Island, and

Benicia; three members of the Board of Pilot Commissioners for Humboldt Bay and Bar; three Fish Commissioners; a President and nine Directors of the State Board of Agriculture; three members of the State Board of Equalization; seven members of the State Board of Health; five members of the San Francisco Board of Health; five members of the Sacramento Board of Health; twenty-two Regents of the University of California; eleven members of the State Board of Education; nine Trustees of the State Normal School; five Trustees of the State Library; a State Librarian; two Deputies for the State Librarian; a Librarian for the Supreme Court Library; five Directors for the Insane Asylum at Stockton; five Trustees for the Insane Asylum at Napa; a Medical Superintendent of the Insane Asylum at Stockton; two Assistant Physicans of the Insane Asylum at Stockton; a Resident Physician of the Insane Asylum at Napa; one First Assistant Physician of the Insane Asylum at Napa; provided, when the number of patients shall increase to six hundred, the Trustees may elect one additional Second Assistant Physician, with the same pay and emoluments as the First Assistant Physician; a Treasurer of the Insane Asylum at Stockton; a Treasurer of the Insane Asylum at Napa; five Trustees of the Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb, and the Blind; three Trustees of the State Burying Ground; nine Commissioners of the Yosemite Valley and Mariposa Big Tree Grove; such other officers as fill offices created by or under the authority of the general laws for the government of counties, cities, and towns, or of the charters or special laws respecting the same, or of the health, school, election, road, or revenue laws.

SEC. 2. Section three hundred and eighty-four of said Salaries. Code is amended to read as follows:

384. The annual salary of the Governor, to include all Governor. services rendered ex officio as member of any Board or Commission, as now required, or which may be by law hereafter devolved upon him, seven thousand dollars.

SEC. 3. Section three hundred and eighty-six of said Code

is amended to read as follows:

386. The annual salary of the Executive Clerk of the Executive Governor, to include his salary as Clerk of the Board of Clerk. Equalization, is twenty-four hundred dollars.

SEC. 4. Section three hundred and ninety-seven of said Code is amended to read as follows:

The annual salary of the Lieutenant-Governor, to Lieutenantinclude all allowances for duties performed as ex officio, is three thousand dollars; but in case the duties heretofore devolved upon him as Warden of the State Prison shall be directed by law, to be performed by some other officer, then his salary shall be two thousand dollars per annum.

SEC. 5. Section four hundred and seventeen is amended to read as follows:

SEC. 6. Section four hundred and, eighteen of said Code is amended to read as follows:

418. The annual salary of the Deputy Secretary of State is two thousand four hundred dollars.

SEC. 7. Section four hundred and nineteen is hereby amended to read as follows:

419. That the annual salary of the Book-keeper shall be twenty-four hundred dollars.

SEC. 8. Section four hundred and twenty of said Code is amended to read as follows:

420. The annual salary of each Recording Clerk for the Secretary of State is one thousand eight hundred dollars. SEC. 9. Section four hundred and thirty-eight of said Code is amended to read as follows:

441. The annual salary of each Clerk in the Controller's office is one thousand eight hundred dollars.

SEC. 13. Section four hundred and fifty-five of said Code is amended to read as follows:

455. The annual salary of the State Treasurer, to include all services rendered ex officio as member of any Board or Commission, as now required, or which may be hereafter by law devolved upon him, is four thousand dollars.

SEC. 14. Section four hundred and fifty-six of said Code is amended to read as follows:

456. The annual salary of the Deputy State Treasurer is two thousand four hundred dollars. The annual salary of the Clerk of the Treasurer shall be one thousand eight hundred dollars.

SEC. 15. Section four hundred and seventy-one of said Code is amended to read as follows:

471. The annual salary of the Attorney-General is four thousand dollars, to include all services rendered ex officio as member of any Board or Commission, as now required, or which may be hereafter devolved upon him by law.

SEC. 16. Section four hundred and seventy-two of said Code is amended to read as follows:

SEC. 17. Section six hundred and eighty-four of said Code is hereby repealed.

The reports must be delivered by the Superintendent of State Printing as follows: To the Governor, fifty copies of each report; to the State Librarian, ten copies of each report; to the Secretary of State, thirty copies of each report; to the Superintendent of Public Instruction, two thousand copies of his report for distribution to School Trustees and teachers, and for exchange with other States; to the Surveyor-General, one thousand copies of his report for distribution to the County Surveyors, Assessors, and County Clerks for the several counties, and for exchange with other States; to the Adjutant-General, two hundred and fifty copies of his report, to be distributed at his discretion; to the Attor
