Mr. Power presented a petition from sundry inhabitants of Brighton township in the county of Beaver, praying that they may be authorized to hold their elections at the house of Robert Wilson in said township; and

The same was read and referred to the committee on election districts.

A motion was made by Mr. Frailey and Mr. Morgan, they having voted in the majority,

A supplement to an act, entitled, an act vesting in the corporation of the city of Philadelphia for the use of the city, a certain lot of ground therein described,' was read the second time as reported by a committee of the whole on Saturday last, considered by section and agreed to.

Ordered, That said bill be prepared for a third reading.
The bill, entitled

An act appropriating money to improve the road across Jack's mountain in Mifflin county,' was read the second time as reported by a committee of the whole on Saturday last.

The several sections were considered and agreed to.

The title being amended by adding thereto these words and the road leading from M'Calls' ferry bridge in Lancaster county,' was agreed to.

Resolution for supplying certain members of the present legislature, with one copy each of Smith's edition of the laws,' which was read the first time.

He informed,

That the House of Representatives have concurred in the amendments by Senate, to the

Resolution relative to the capture of two British ships of war by captain Charles Stewart of the United States frigate Constitution."

He presented for signature, the bills, entitled as follow, viz. An act to authorize the Governor to incorporate a company to erect a bridge over the river Schuylkill, at or near Lewis' ferry in the county of Berks.'

A supplement to the act, entitled, an act to enable the Governor to incorporate a company for the purpose of making an artificial road from the Philadelphia and Lancaster turnpike road between the twenty-three mile stone and the Admiral Warren tavern, to the point where the Reading road intersects the Morgantown road to the west of Jones's tavern in Berks county."

An act making further provision for the support of the board of wardens for the port of Philadelphia.'

'An act to provide for the better preservation and increase of the library of this commonwealth.'

A supplement to the act, entitled, an act to authorize the Governor to incorporate a company to erect a toll bridge over Big Beaver creek, at or near Wolf lane in the county of Beaver.' Whereupon,

The Speaker signed said bills.

The Secretary of the Commonwealth being introduced, presented a message from the Governor, with the documents* therein referred to, which was read as follows, to wit.

An act to enable the Governor to incorporate a company for making an artificial road from Henry Hews' in the county of Lycoming, to Aaron Bloss' in the county of Tioga.'

I hasten to lay before you, as well a letter from the secretary at war, soliciting for the government of the United States a cession of jurisdiction over real estate near Pittsburg, purchased by that government for the erection thereon of buildings for the purposes of war, with a designation of the particular site attached thereto, as a letter also from Callender Irvine commissary general, written in obedience to directions from the department of war, accompanied by two deeds to the United States for property in the neighborhood of the city of Philadelphia-in which letter he intimates an early transmission of other deeds for property near Carlisle, all purchased for similar purposes. The importance of the subject, it is presumed, will command the early attention of the General Assembly.
