CHAPTER I.

An ACT to change the name of John Harris Pugsley, to John ·

SECT. I. BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the Name of John said John Harris Pugsley shall hereafter be known by the name changed to John of John Levett Harris, and by the same name shall be able and capable in law to sue and be sued, grant, take, inherit and receive, and do all other legal acts, as well in courts of justice as elsewhere, as effectually to all intents and purposes, as he could have done by his former name, if no change had been made therein.

CHAPTER II.

A further SUPPLEMENT to the several acts providing for the erection of houses for the employment and support of the poor, in the counties of Chester, Lancaster, and Montgomery, so far as respects the counties of Chester and Montgomery.

poor of the counties of Chester and Montgomery, they shall annually publish in the newspapers of their respective counties, for the information of the citizens thereof, a full and detailed statement of the receipts and expenditures on account of the said institutions respectively.

SECT. II. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That as soon as may be practicable, after the passing of this act, the number of directors for the county of Chester shall be rereduced to three; duced to three, that is to say, there shall be but one chosen in each year hereafter, and as soon as their number is so reduced, any two of them shall be a quorum for transacting the business of the corporation, and their salary shall be forty dollars each, per annum, and no more; Provided nevertheless, that if any director shall be obliged to attend on any suit or action where the corporation is a party, the said director shall be entitled to, and receive one dollar and thirty-three cents for every day he shall necessarily attend on such suit or action, and that no director shall receive pay except in proportion to the days he shall attend, according to the adjournment of the board or the class to which he shall belong.

SECT. III. CHAPTER III.

An ACT empowering certain trustees therein named to sell a tract of land in Tioga county, together with a lot of ground in the borough of Lancaster, and to appropriate the monies arising therefrom to the purposes therein mentioned.

WHEREAS several of the members of the English Presbyterian congregation in the borough of Lancaster, by petition, have represented to the legislature, that by the last will and

testament of Josiah Lokart, late of said borough, deceased, the said congregation is entitled to a certain tract of land situate on a branch of Tioga river in the county of Tioga, containing one thousand and five acres, with the usual allowance, and that by a grant from James Hamilton, esq. the said congregation is also entitled to a certain lot or piece of ground situate in the borough of Lancaster aforesaid, containing in front on Lime street, sixty-four feet and four inches and'an half, and in depth two hundred and forty-five feet to a fourteen feet alley, bounded on the north by a lot now of Michael Gundacker, on the east by said alley, on the south by a lot now in the tenure of Sarah Musser, and west by the street aforesaid; and the said tract of land and lot of ground being entirely unproductive and of no real benefit to said congregation: Therefore,

CHAPTER IV.

An ACT to relinquish the title of this commonwealth to a certain tract of land lately held by Adam Smith, and vest the same in his widow Amy Smith.

township, in the county of Philadelphia, yeoman, died without issue, seized of a certain tract of land in Cheltenham township in the county of Montgomery, containing thirteen acres and sixteen perches as described in a certain indenture from John Lapp and Mary his wife, to the said Adam Smith, bearing date the second day of June, one thousand eight hundred and one, recorded in the office for recording of deeds at Norristown in the county of Montgomery, deed book number 15, page 157, &c. which said tract of land by reason of the alienage of the said Adam Smith, is liable to be forfeited to the prejudice of his said widow, who by her industry chiefly contributed to its acquisition.

SECT. I. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That all the right, title, and interest of this commonwealth, in and to the to Amy Smith. said tract of land, and all and every the hereditaments and appurtenances thereto belonging, be and the same hereby are forever remised and released to Amy Smith, the widow of the said Adam Smith, and that she shall have, hold and enjoy the said tract of land, hereditaments and appurtenances, to herself, her heirs and assigns forever; Provided always, That nothing Rights of others in this act contained shall in any wise prejudice the rights of any individual, or be construed to divest or impair any other title to the said land than that which this commonwealth has, or might have, by reason of the alienage of the said Adam Smith.

Defect of the title of Isaac

CHAPTER V.

An ACT to remedy a defect in the title of Isaac Wisener to a lot of land situate in New London township, in the county of Chester.

SECT. I. BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the deed of Wisener to a lot conveyance executed by William Corkadle and his wife, to of land remedied. Isaac Wisener of the township of New London, in the county of Chester, dated the seventh day of October, one thousand eight hundred and eight, recorded in the office for recording deeds in and for the county of Chester, in book C. 3d vol.

page 351, &c. whereby the said William Corkadle and wife conveyed to the said Isaac Wisener, all their estate, title and interest in a lot of land situate in the township aforesaid, containing eleven acres and eighty-nine perches, be, and the same is hereby declared to be as valid in law to all intents and purposes as it the said William Corkadle had been a citizen of the United States at the time of acquiring the property aforesaid; Provided always, That nothing herein contained shall be construed Individual rights to bar or defeat any person or persons, of any right, title or in- secured, terest which they may lawfully have, in or to the said lot or piece of land, or any part or parcel thereof.

CHAPTER VI.

An ACT to authorize the trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Cengregation in the town of Washington, to convey a certain lot of ground therein mentioned.

WHEREAS John Hoge of the town of Washington, and state of Pennsylvania, by deed dated the fifth day of February, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and one, did convey a lot of ground numbered 194 in the plot of said town, to Thomas Lackey, Abraham Craiger, Abraham Johnston, Titus Rigby, and John Cooper, and their successors, in trust for the use of the members of the Methodist Episcopal church in the United States of America, for the purpose of having a house for Divine worship erected thereon, and the said trustees having, through mistake, erected said house on lot No. 193, which still remains the property of the said John Hoge, and are desirous of exchanging the title which the members of said church, have in lot No. 194, with said John Hoge for a title to lot No. 193; Therefore,
