MONDAY, January 22, 1816.

Mr. G. Weaver presented a petition from Susanna Tyson administratrix of Joseph Tyson, and John Tyson administrators of the estate of Cornelius Tyson, late of Montgomery county, deceased, praying that a law may be passed to enable Mary Bringhurst and Moses Hobson administrators of the estate of Israel Bringhurst, deceased, to convey a certain tract of land to the said administrators of the estate of Cornelius Tyson; and

Said petition was read and referred to Mr. G. Weaver, Mr. Barnitz and Mr. Maghee.

Mr. Frailey presented the petition and documents of George Snell of the borough of Reading, praying that he may be compensated out of the treasury of this commonwealth, for 1204 rations by him furnished to a detachment of militia under the command of col. Weirick, when on their march to the defence of Philadelphia in the fall of the year 1814; and

Said petition and documents were read and referred to Mr. Frailey, Mr. Rogers, Mr. Shearer, Mr. Reed and Mr. Erwin.

Mr. Shearer presented the petition of the commissioners of the district of Spring Garden, in the county of Philadelphia, praying that a law may be passed authorizing them to elect additional members to the board of inspectors of the prison of the city and county of Philadelphia; and

Said petition was read, and

Ordered, To lie on the table.

Mr. Lowrie from the committee to whom was referred on the 16th inst. an address from the House of Representatives to the Governor for the removal from office of Joseph Brinton, a justice of the peace of Delaware county, reported said address as committed.

Mr. Hopkins from the committee appointed for the purpose on the 19th inst. reported a bill, entitled

An act concerning the sale of a tract of land of which John Burnside died seized,' which was read the first time. ·

The bill, entitled

An act for the relief of John Thompson,' was read the third time, and

Resolved, That this bill pass.

Ordered, That the clerk present said bill to the House of Representatives for concurrence. !

Mr. McSherry read a bill in his place, and on leave given, presented the same to the chair, entitled

An act to remedy defects in the titles to real estate purcha sed by certain emigrants within this commonwealth, during the time they were aliens,' which was read the first time,

The bill, entitled

An act to authorize John Snyder of Northampton county his heirs and assigns, to erect and maintain a wing-dam on the river Lehigh under certain restrictions,' was read the second time as reported by a committee of the whole on Saturday last.

The first and only section having been considered.

On the question,

Will Senate agree to said section ?

The yeas and nays were required by Mr. Lowrie and Mr. Erwin, and are as follow, to wit.

So it was determined in the negative, and the bill consequently

lost.

The Secretary of the Commonwealth being introduced, presented a message from the Governor, which was read as follows, to wit.

I have this day approved and signed the following acts of the General Assembly, and directed the Secretary of the Commonwealth to return them to the Houses in which they respectively originated, viz.

1. An act authorizing Elizabeth Deal and Charles Albrecht executors of the last will and testament of Jacob Deal deceased, to sell and convey the estate therein mentioned.

2. An act confirming the proceedings of the commissioners of the county of Pike.

3. An act to extend the boundaries of Columbia county. 4. A supplement to an act, entitled, an act authorizing the

Governor to appoint commissioners to view and lay out a state road from Carlisle in Cumberland county, to Littleton in Bedford county.

The Senate resolved itself into a committee of the whole, Mr. Rogers in the chair, on the bill from the House of Representa tives, entitled

An act enabling the Governor to incorporate a company for making an artificial road from the state line, near the town of Emmetsburg, in the state of Maryland, through Waynesburg, Greencastle and Mercersburg, to intersect the Chambersburg and Bedford turnpike road, at or near the east end of McConnels burg.'

And after some time,

The committee rose and reported said bill with amendments, which were read.

The clerk of the House of Representatives being introduced, returned the bill, entitled

An act for the relief of Isaac Thompson, an old soldier.'
And informed,

That the House of Representatives have passed said bill with amendments, in which the concurrence of Senate is requested. He further informed,

That the House of Representatives have concurred in the amendment by Senate, to the amendment by the House of Representatives, to the bill, entitled

An act to authorize Henry Jarrett of Northampton county, to build a permanent toll bridge across the river Lehigh.'

He presented for signature, the bills, entitled as follow, viz. An act to extend the act, entitled, an act to improve the breed of sheep in certain counties in this commonwealth, to the counties of Erie, Bucks, Westmoreland and Tioga,'

'An act concerning the patenting of lands.'

An act authorizing the appointment of an additional auctioneer within the city and liberties of Philadelphia."'

A supplement to an act, entitled, an act to enable the Governor to incorporate a company for making an artificial road beginning at the intersection of the Egypt road with the ridge turnpike road two miles above Norristown in the county of Montgomery, from thence to Pawling's ford bridge over the river Schuylkill.'

An act to authorize the purchase of certain copies of Smith's edition of the laws of Pennsylvania.”

Whereupon,

The Speaker signed said bills.

The amendments by the House of Representatives, to the bill, entitled

• An act for the relief of Isaac Thompson, an old soldier,' were read as follow, viz.

Make forty dollars' read eighty dollars,' and insert after the word act these words in full for the arrearages of pay and money expended by him in the public service during the revolu tionary war.'

TUESDAY, January 23, 1816.

Mr. Ross presented the petition of sundry inhabitants of Cattawissa and Mifflin townships in the county of Columbia, remonstrating against the annexation of any part of said townships to the county of Schuylkill; and

Said petition was read and referred to a committee of the whole when they shall have under consideration the bill to which it relates.

The Speaker laid before the Senate a letter from Richard Peters, president of the company for erecting a permanent bridge over the river Schuylkill at or near the city of Philadelphia,

transmitting an abstract of the accounts for the three preceeding years, submitted in obedience to their act of incorporation; and Said letter and abstract were read, and laid on the table.

Mr. M Sherry from the committee appointed for the purpose, made further report in part, which was read as follows, to wit.

That in conjunction with a similar committee from the House® of Representatives, they have compared, and on the 22d inst. presented to the Governor for his approbation, the bills, entitled as follow, viz.

An act for the relief of James Moore of Beaver county,' which was read the first time.

The Speaker laid before the Senate a letter from William Findlay, state treasurer, which was read as follows, to wit.

Treasury Office, January 1816. SIR-I take the liberty to state, for the information of the honorable house of which you are the Speaker, that in pursuance of an act, entitled An act to extinguish the lien of the commonwealth on certain specific parts of the estate of the late John Nicholson, in favor of Thomas Reyerson,' passed the 28th of March 1806, the said Reyerson on the 10th of April of the same year, gave his bond conditioned for the payment of five hundred dollars with interest, for the use of the commonwealth, and to secure the payment of which, executed a mortgage on a certain tract of land situate on Ten Mile creek in the county of Greene, containing 400 acres and allowance.
