TUESDAY, December 5, 1815.

THIS day agreeably to the Constitution, the Senate convened. Present twenty members.

On motion,

The returns of the election of members, to supply the places of those whose term of service had expired, were read; by which appeared that the following named persons have been duly elect ed, to wit.

Returns from the following districts on enquiry by the clerk at the office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth, have not been received, to wit.

From the district composed of the counties of Westmoreland, Indiana and Jefferson, and from the district composed of the counties of Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver and Butler.

Mr. Tod (late Speaker) informed the Senate, that in the recess of the legislature, he had received a letter from William Hamilton, resigning his seat as one of the representatives in Senate, from the district composed of the county of Lancaster; and that he had thereupon issued his writ of election directing the sheriff of the said county to hold an election to supply said vacancy: that in pursuance thereof a return had been made to the office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth.

Whereupon

Said return was read, by which it appeared, that CHARLES SMITH was returned as duly elected a representative in Senate for said district, in the place of William Hamilton, resigned.

On motion,

The Senate proceeded to the election of Speaker (the clerks having first been appointed tellers) and upon counting the votes it appeared that John Tod was unanimously re-elected.

The usual oaths of office were administered to the Speaker by Mr. Frailey.

Thereupon,

The requisite qualifications were administered by the Speaker to the following new members, to wit.

CHARLES A. BARNITZ.

Mr. Forster presented the petition of Thomas Walker, praying to be appointed clerk of the Senate, and the same was read and laid on the table.

Mr. Forster presented the petitions of Robert Dickey, Alexander I. W. Jackson, Joel Bailey, Samuel McIntire, John L. Wallis, Erasmus Kelley, Daniel Welker and John Brooks, severally praying to be appointed sergeant-at-arms to the Senate, and said petitions were read; and

Ordered, To lie on the table.

Mr. Frailey presented the petition of George Gangewehr.
Mr. G. Weaver that of Isaiah Longshore.

Mr. Beale that of George Taylor.

Mr. Jarrett that of Marmaduke M'Michael.

All respectively praying to be appointed sergeant-at-arms to the Senate, and the same were severally read; and

Ordered, To lie on the table.

Mr. Forster presented the petition of William Shannon, praying to be re-appointed door-keeper of the Senate, which was read and laid on the table.

Mr. Frailey presented the petition of Abraham Schwartz, praying to be appointed door-keeper of Senate, which was read and laid on the table.

On motion of Mr. I. Weaver and Mr. McFarland,

Ordered, That the choice of sergeant-at-arms and door-keeper, be the order of the day for Thursday next.

On motion of Mr. Smith and Mr. Frailey,

Ordered, That when Senate adjourns, it will adjourn to meet at eleven o'clock to-morrow morning, and that that be the hour of meeting in the morning of each day until otherwise directed. Adjourned until that hour.

WEDNESDAY, December 6, 1815.

Mr. Poe the member returned by the district composed of the county of Franklin appeared, and after the requisite qualifications were administered to him by the Speaker, took his seat.

Mr. Frailey presented the petition of John Shannon, praying to be appointed sergeant-at-arins to the Senate, and the same was read and laid on the table.

Mr. Forster presented the petition of Christian Stahl, praying to be appointed sergeant-at-arms, and the same was read and laid on the table.

Mr. Powell and Mr. Rhoads a committee from the House of Representatives being introduced, informed Senate that that house is duly organized and ready to proceed to business.

The Speaker laid before the Senate a letter from the Secretary of the Commonwealth, inclosing the proposals of several printers for performing the printing work of the Senate, which were read as follows, to wit.

For printing the Journal in the English language.

Wm. Gillmor & Hugh Hamilton ask for 1375 copies $ 37 00 per sheet, 1500 m's in a page.

John Wyeth asks & 37 00 per sheet, 1500 m's in a page. Incidental work in proportion.

Wm. Greer asks for 8 pages on Long primer, 1500 m's in a page, $18.50 for 1350 copies. Incidental work in the same proportion.

Hugh MIlwaine asks 37 00 per sheet.

Christian Gleim asks 8 37 50 per sheet on Long primer, each, page to contain 1500 m's, the usual number of copies. Or, 33 33 per sheet, if a page is to contain 1200 m's on the same type. Or, $ 30 00 per sheet, if a page is to contain 1000 m's on Pica, as hitherto. Incidental work the usual prices.
