PORT AND HARBOR FACILITIES PIERS, WHARVES, AND DOCKS The two piers at the port were constructed and are operated by the Board of Harbor Commissioners of the Territory of Hawaii. They provide a total of 989 feet of berthing space, having a depth of 35 feet, and are connected with the 30-inch gage Lihue Plantation Railroad. These piers are described in the following table: Piers, wharves, and docks (except drydocks) STORAGE WAREHOUSES AND BULK FREIGHT STORAGE The only storage facilities at the port for general traffic are found in the transit shed on pier No. 1. Outgoing bulk freight shipments are taken direct from car to ship, and incoming freight is usually hauled away as unloaded. Several tanks are available for storing molasses.
