CHAPTER 20.

AN ACT to allow the Washington county court to subscribe stock in the
Springfield, Maxville, and Harrodsburg Turnpike Road.

WHEREAS, The General Assembly of Kentucky did, on the 21st day of February, 1849, pass an act, entitled "An act to incorporate the Springfield, Maxville, and Harrodsburg Turnpike Road Company;" and whereas, it is desirable that the said road shall be completed from Maxville to the Washington and Mercer county line; therefore,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

1. That the Washington county court is hereby authorized to subscribe stock in said road to the amount of fifteen hundred dollars to the mile, in order to complete the same as aforesaid, and to levy a tax upon the property of the tax-payers of said county to pay for the stock hereby authorized.

§2. That a majority of the justices of the peace of Washington county are hereby authorized to make the subscription as provided for in section one.

3. This act shall be in force from and after its passage.

CHAPTER 23.

AN ACT to amend an act, entitled "An act to amend the act incorporating the Cabin Creek Turnpike Road Company," approved March 29, 1873. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That the act, entitled "An act to amend the act incorporating the Cabin Creek Turnpike Road Company," approved March 29th, 1873, be, and the same is hereby, amended so that it shall not hereafter be lawful for said turnpike road company to collect tax off of any person or persons who were subject to pay tax in aid of the Concord and Tollesboro Turnpike Road Company previous to the enactment of the said act incorporating the Cabin Creek Turnpike Road Company; and it shall be lawful for the Concord and Tollesboro Turnpike Road Company to collect tax off of said persons as provided in the charter, and amendments thereto of said Concord and Tollesboro Turnpike Road Company.

2. This act to take effect from and after its passage. Approved December 22, 1873.

AN ACT to amend an act, entitled "An act to amend and reduce into one the several acts concerning the town of Hopkinsville," approved March 5, 1870; and also to amend chapter 1945 of the acts of 1871, which became a law 6th of March, 1871.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§. 1. That section eight of article three of an act to amend and reduce into one the several acts concerning one dollar & fifty the town of Hopkinsville, approved March 5, 1870, be Section 8, article amended by striking therefrom the words "one dollar,” where it occurs in said section, and inserting in lieu thereof the words "one dollar and fifty cents."

CHAPTER 25.

AN ACT to amend the charter of the Concord and Tollesboro Turnpike
Road Company.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§ 1. That it shall not be hereafter lawful for any person teaming on the Concord and Tollesboro Turnpike Road to "rough lock," or lock with a chain, any wagon on said road; and all persons teaming on said road shall be required to use the "rub lock;" and for any violation of this section the offender shall be fined the sum of five dollars for each offense, to be recovered, upon conviction, before a justice of the peace.

§ 2. The board of directors of said company shall have the power to erect toll-gates on said road, at any points to erect toll-gates on said road that they may see proper: Provided, The toll charged shall amount to no more for each mile of travel than they are now allowed by law to charge.

3. The taxes that may be listed with the sheriff for collection shall be due from him on the first day of February following the time of listing, and in case of his failure to pay the same over to the treasurer of said road upon demand after that date, he shall be liable, in addition to the full amount listed with him, the sum of five per cent. on the whole amount so listed; and in case the sheriff fails or refuses to pay the same over to the treasurer of the said road as above prescribed, the company may, at the first term of the circuit court for said county,

The president of the company may, when there are no other bids sufficient to pay the tax and costs, bid on any lands put up for sale by the sheriff under the preceding section, and in case it is bid off by him for the company, or in case the land is put up and no one bids, the treasurer of the said road shall give the said sheriff credit for the amount of tax against such person.

§ 11. No part of the fund raised from this tax shall be used in paying interest on said bonds, or for any other purpose than above specified.

CHAPTER 26.

AN ACT for the benefit of the Carroll County Agricultural Association.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

§1. That the Carroll County Agricultural Association directors to sell be, and they are hereby, empowered, through their pres- property & ident and directors, to sell and convey any property now held by said association, either real or personal; and that any sale and conveyance which may hereafter be made by said association shall convey to the purchaser thereof which previous to such sale was invested in said association.

§2. Be it further enacted, That the articles of association and charter heretofore adopted, and amendments thereto, recorded in the office of the clerk of the Carroll county court, under which said association was organized and has been transacting its business, be, and the same are hereby, made and declared legal and binding; and all contracts heretofore made, or that may hereafter be made with and by said association, shall be valid and binding on the parties to such contracts.

3. This act to take effect from its passage.
