Chairman, Subcommittee in Charge of the State, Justice, Commerce, DEAR SENATOR MCCARRAN: Pursuant to our letter of April 11, 1949, there are transmitted herewith proposed amendments to H. R. 4016, the bill making appropriations for the Departments of State, Justice, Commerce, and the Judiciary for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1950. The reductions recommended by the House Appropriations Committee total $49,345,895, including $8,200,000 in contract authorizations. Of this amount the Department is requesting restoration of $6,580,500 in cash and $4,000,000 in contract authorizations, as well as certain appropriation language changes.
