English Episcopal ActaM. G. Snape, David Michael Smith This EEA volume contains the acta of three bishops: Philip of Poitou (1197-1208) and Richard Marsh (1217-1226), who were both controversial and unpopular figures, and Richard Poore (1228-1237), who proved to be a more stabilizing influence. This edition complements Vol. 24, which contains the acta from the period 1153-1195, and includes an extensive introduction to both volumes. Together the two books form an important souce for the history of the medieval church in the north. |
