and projected public works of Pennsylvania, New York, and other states, a grand channel of communication within the borders of our own country, amply sufficient for all the purposes of commerce between the most remote sections of the Union, and perfectly secure, not only from the dangers of the sea, but also from the attacks of any foreign maritime power who may be at war with us; And whereas, the present prosperous condition of the national treasury and the country, will permit the expenditure by the general government, of two or three millions of dollars, to remove effectually the obstructions to the uninterrupted navigation by steamboats which now exist in that river; Therefore,

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in General Assembly met, Relative to That our senators in congress be instructed, and our the improvement of the representatives requested, to use every exertion to procure navigation of the passage of a law at the present session, making an ample appropriation for the improvement of the navigation of the Ohio river, between the cities of Pittsburg and Louisville, so that the said river may be navigable for steamboats at all seasons of the year, when it is not obstructed by ice. Resolved, That the Governor of this Commonwealth be forward cop requested to forward a copy of these resolutions to each of senators and our senators and representatives in congress, to be laid before that body.

Relative to the claims of Joseph Smith, Peter Livergood, George
Patton Boyer, John Gallaugher and George Keener, Isaac Kleckner

Pennsylvania Canal and Columbia Railroad.

Resolved, That the appraisers of damages on the Pennsyl vania canal, be, and they are hereby authorized and required to ascertain whether the washing away of the island of George Patton Boyer, is caused wholly, or in part, by the existence of the Shamokin dam in the river Susquehanta, and if they find the said dam is the cause, wholly or in part, of the said washing away, then the said appraisers shall ascertain and report what damages the said George Patton Boyer has sustained, under the rules, regulations and restrictions in assessing damages, in other cases of damage on the Pennsylvania canal, and the sum so reported, shall be paid out of the damage fund, as in other cases.

Resolved, That the Canal Commissioners be, and they are Gallaugher hereby authorized to settle and adjust the claim of John and G. Keen-Gallaugher and George Keener, late contractors on the French Creek division of the Pennsylvania canal, for compensation for losses sustained in the erection of dam number four, across French Creek, as may, upon examination and investigation, appear equitable and just, and the Auditor General is hereby authorized to audit the same in the way and manner other claims are audited.
