About the author (1995)

James Midgley is a Professor of Social Work and Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and Economic Development at Louisiana State University. He previously taught at the London School of Economics and the University of Cape Town. His many books include The Social Dimensions of Development (with Margaret Hardiman, 1982, revised 1989); Social Security, Inequality and the Third World (1984); The Radical Right and the Welfare State: An International Assessment (with Howard Glennerster, 1991); and Profiles in International Social Work (with S K Khinduka and M C Hokenstad, 1993).
