NEW YORK CITY HOME FOR THE AGED AND INFIRM, BROOKLYN DIVISION, Clarkson Street, Flatbush, Brooklyn, N. Y. Inspected by Inspector Hill October 20, December 22, 1903; March 30, September 24, 1904; by Inspector Lathrop September 16, 17, 19, 1904.

Attached to the almshouse are 67 acres of land, 6 of which are reported as under cultivation-35 acres, with the buildings thereon, being leased to the Long Island State Hospital; total value of land and buildings, including Kings County Hospital, $4,000,000; value of almshouse property alone, estimated at $750,000; estimated value of the labor of inmates during the year, $41,679.60; estimated value of the products of the farm, $1,317.38.

Expenses in connection with the almshouse for the year ending September 30, 1904, $140,168.76; estimated weekly expense per person, $1.99.

Total number in the almshouse during the year, 3,725; remaining October 1, 1904, 1,353 (769 males and 584 females), including 108 feeble-minded or idiotic, 57 blind, 1 deaf and 25 epileptics; number of wayfarers to whom meals were furnished at the almshouse, 863; total supported and relieved during the year, 4,588.

BROOKLYN DISCIPLINARY TRAINING SCHOOL FOR BOYS, Eighteenth Avenue, Between Fifty-sixth and Fifty-eighth Streets, Brooklyn, N. Y.

Established and incorporated April 10, 1896, by chapter 235 of the Laws of 1896.

Object.--To receive and take into the above-named school all such boys under the age of 14 years and over 7 years, who shall be arrested or committed as vagrants, or convicted of criminal offenses other than felonies, in the city of Brooklyn, as may, in the judgment of the county court or of the supreme court in said city, or of the police magistrate, be proper boys to be so received, and to instruct them in such branches of useful knowledge as shall be suitable to their years and capacities.

Inspected by Inspector Prest April 5, August 19, 1904. Incorporated June 29, 1881, under the title of Bedford Dispensary; name changed as above by chapter 543, Laws of 1895; licensed October 12, 1899.

Object.-To provide medicines and medical and surgical aid and attendance at low prices to those who are able to pay for them; and to provide the same gratuitously to all who are unable to pay and to promote in every manner possible the comfort and welfare of the indigent sick; and may establish and maintain, in the city of Brooklyn, a hospital, at which shall be received such persons as may require medical or surgical treatment, and where medicines may be provided and dispensed for their benefit, and where they may receive all necessary care and suitable medical or surgical treatment.
