SCHOHARIE COUNTY ALMSHOUSE, Middleburgh, N. Y. Inspected by Inspector Rogers June 30, 1904.

Keeper. Jesse Keyser, appointed January 1, 1905.

Attached to the almshouse are 60 acres of land, 50 of which are reported to be under cultivation; value of land and buildings, $17,500; estimated value of the products of the farm during the year, $975; receipts from sales, $177.25.

Expenses in connection with the almshouse for the year ending September 30, 1904, $6,047.38; estimated weekly expense per person, $2.37; expense of temporary (outdoor) relief adminis tered by the superintendent and overseers of the poor, $7,473.14; aggregate expenditures for support and relief, $13,520.52.

Total number of inmates in the almshouse during the year, 58; remaining October 1, 1904, 30 (17 males and 13 females), including 3 blind and 11 feeble-minded or idiotic persons; number of wayfarers to whom meals were furnished at the almshouse, 105; number receiving temporary (outdoor) relief, 180; total supported and relieved during the year, 343.

COUNTY INSTITUTIONS.

As Schuyler county has no almshouse, its dependent poor are cared for by being boarded in families.

The total number for whom such care and maintenance were provided, during the year ending September 30, 1904, was 233. In addition temporary relief was furnished to 160 transient wayfarers.

Aggregate expenditures for support and relief during the year, $14,088.68; for residents of the county, $13,959.12; for nonresident wayfarers or tramps, $129.56.
