Attached to the almshouse are five acres of land, none of which is reported to be under cultivation; value of land and buildings, $160,000.

Expenses in connection with the almshouse for the year ending September 30, 1904, $25,152.40; estimated weekly expense per person, $2.92; expense for temporary (outdoor) relief administered by the superintendent and overseers of the poor, $17,126.51; expense of support in whole or in part in institutions other than the almshouse, $11,500.00; aggregate expenditures for support and relief, $53,778.91.

Total number in the almshouse during the year, 263; remaining October 1, 1904, 95 (65 males and 30 females), including 1 feebleminded or idiotic and 1 blind person; number of wayfarers to whom meals were furnished at the almshouse, 8,336; number receiving temporary (outdoor) relief 1,251; number supported in other institutions, 199; total supported and relieved during the year, 10,049.

Terms and qualifications for admittance.--Applicants must be residents of the county of Schenectady; admitted upon a vote of the board of managers after favorable report by special committee, or upon commitment by superintendent of the poor. Application to be made to the board of managers.

HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION OF THE CITY OF SCHENECTADY (THE), (Ellis Hospital), 110 Jay Street, Schenectady, N. Y.

Established and incorporated July 28, 1891.

Object. To erect, establish, maintain and operate a hospital in the city of Schenectady in the county of Schenectady and State of New York, said hospital so to be erected shall be perpetually known and designated as the "Ellis Hospital," and shall have in some appropriate place upon the outer walls thereof, and in a suitable form and manner, the words "Ellis Hospital" inscribed, or placed. Such hospital upon being so erected shall be used, maintained and operated as a hospital for the reception, care and treatment of residents of the city of Schenectady suffer

ing from sickness, disease or injury, and unable to procure or to provide for themselves proper medical or surgical care or treatment.

Terms and qualifications for admittance.-All persons sick or injured, except those suffering from chronic or contagious diseases, if residents of Schenectady, are received free if needy; otherwise upon payment of five to fifteen dollars per week. Application to be made to the attending physician.
