and if allowed to go to decay and destruction, as it soon will, if suffered to remain in its present incomplete condition, the said harbor will be left in a worse condition than it was when said work was commenced, if it be not wholly destroyed: Therefore,

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in General Assembly met, That the congress of the United States ought to make immediate provision for the repair and completion of the works commenced for the improvement of the said harbor, and that the senators and representatives of Pennsylvania in congress be and they are hereby requested to use their influence to procure an appropriation for the purpose aforesaid.

Resolved, That the governor be and he is hereby requested to transmit a copy of the foregoing preamble and resolution to each of our senators and representatives in congress.

RESOLUTION

Relative to the claim of Charles W. Hegins.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That the auditor general be and he is hereby directed to credit Charles W. Hegins, late clerk of the senate, with the sum of thirty-three dollars and forty-nine cents, in the settlement of his accounts.

RESOLUTION

Relative to the township elections in the county of Elk.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the township elections in the county of Elk shall hereafter be held in the several townships on the fourth Tuesday of February, Huston township. annually; and all that part of the township of Huston which now lies in the said county of Elk, shall be attached to Jay township; and that part of Sergeant township which now lies in said county, together with such other territory as may be annexed thereto by the court, shall form a separate township, to be called Jones, and the electors thereof shall hold their general and township elections at the house of Rasselas Brown in said township; that the several courts of said county, together with the county officers, shall hereafter be held at the seat of justice fixed for said county by the commissioners appointed by the act of 18th Courts in M'Kean April, A. D. 1843; and that the several courts of the county of M'Kean county. shall hereafter be held on the fourth Mondays of February, May, SepCourts in Potter tember and December; and the several courts of Potter county shall be County. hereafter held on the Monday next succeeding the fourth Monday of

RESOLUTION

Authorizing the auditor general to pay Samuel T. Williams for furnishing diagrams of the house and senate chamber.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That the auditor general be and he is hereby directed to settle with, and the state treasurer is hereby directed to pay to Samuel T. Williams two hundred and twelve dollars and fifty cents, as a full compensation for one thousand diagrams of the house of representatives, and two hundred and fifty of

the senate chamber, for the session of one thousand eight hundred and
forty-four; and hereafter no such diagrams, for either the senate or the
house, shall be ordered by any clerk or speaker of either house.

For the payment of expenses attending the investigation of the matters of inquiry connected with the election of state printers, and for other purposes.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That the speaker of the house of representatives is hereby authorized and directed to draw his warrant upon the state treasurer, in favor of Jerome K. Clerk to comBoyer and Jacob Ziegler, for the sum of seventy-five dollars to each, in full for their services as secretaries to the joint committee of investigation, to whom was referred so much of the message of the governor as relates to the election of state printer; and he is further hereby authorized and directed to draw his warrant on the state treasurer, for the daily pay and mileage of witnesses who attended before said com- Witnesses. mittee, at the rate of one dollar per day, and eight cents per mile circular: Provided, That the accounts of the said witnesses be first submitted to, examined and allowed by the committee on accounts of the house of representatives.

Resolved, That the committee of accounts of the senate is hereby Sergeant-at-arms, authorized and directed to settle the account of the sergeant-at-arms of senate. the senate, allowing him twenty-five cents for the service of subpoenas issued by the said committee, and eight cents per mile for the necessary mileage; and that the speaker of the senate be authorized to draw his warrant upon the state treasurer for the amount thus settled and allowed by the committee of accounts.

Resolved, That Isaac Hovis be continued watchman of the public Watchman. buildings for the present session of the legislature.

RESOLUTION

Relative to newspapers.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That the members of the senate and house of representatives, the clerks, sergeant-at-arms and doorkeepers, each be furnished during the sessions of the legislature, with two daily newspapers, or as many papers as shall be equivalent thereto in price, and that the expenses be paid by the clerk of the senate and the clerk of the house of representatives for their respective houses, and the auditor general shall draw his warrant upon the state treasurer for the said amount.

Relative to the compensation of Daniel Forrey.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That the state treasurer be and he is hereby authorized to pay out of any moneys in the treasury, the sum of fifty dollars to Daniel Forrey, in full for his services as clerk to the committee on the judiciary system of the house of representatives, while acting as a committee of investigation into the alleged over issues of relief notes, and condition of the Berks county

bank: Provided, That hereafter no committee of either branch of the Proviso. legislature shall at any time employ a clerk, unless the authority and consent of the branch appointing the committee shall be first had and obtained.

RESOLUTION

Relative to the boundary line of Mauch Chunk and Lausanne township, in the county of Carbon.

WHEREAS, The Nesquehoning creek has always hitherto been considered to be the boundary line between Mauch Chunk and Lausanne townships, in the county of Carbon, and the taxes have always been assessed and collected, and the elections held in those townships, in pursuance of this understanding: And whereas, It has lately been ascertained that the boundary between the two townships aforesaid, as recorded at Easton, in Northampton county, was an imaginary line near and parallel to the said creek: Therefore,

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That the Nesquehoning creek shall be the boundary line between the townships of Mauch Chunk and Lausanne, in the county of Carbon, and the taxes shall be assessed, and the elections be held, in conformity thereto.
