A SUPPLEMENT

To the act, entitled "An Act to incorporate the York county mutual insurance company."

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the business of the York county insurance company, shall extend to and embrace in its objects the county of York, with the same force and effect as if such provision were contained in the original act of incorporation; and that the election of the persons elected on the first day of September, one thousand eight hundred and forty-three, by the applicants for insurance in said corporation, shall be valid.

SECTION 2. That so much of the act of incorporation of said company, as directs the payment of annual interest on the deposite notes, is hereby repealed; and that when it may be necessary to defray the incidental charges and expenses of transacting the business of the company, it shall be lawful for the directors to determine how much shall be paid on the deposite notes; which sum, so determined, shall not exceed in each year, twenty-five cents for each thousand dollars worth of property insured.

SECTION 3. That the prothonotary of York county shall enter the memorandums filed in his office, against the members of said company, in a docket to be kept for that purpose, and shall receive in each case a fee of twenty-five cents, to be paid by the insurer.

AN ACT

Authorizing Neville B. Craig, committee, &c., of Sidney Gregg, widow of Isaac Gregg, and the children and heirs-at-law of the said Sidney and Isaac, to borrow money on real estate.

WHEREAS, An act of assembly has heretofore, viz: on the first day of April, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-seven, been passed, Preamble. authorizing Neville B. Craig, committee of the person and estate of Sidney Gregg, widow of Isaac Gregg, late of the county of Allegheny, 0. O. Gregg, Isaac Gregg, Sarah E. Gregg and Sidney J. Robinson, formerly Sidney J. Gregg, children of the said Isaac and Sidney Gregg, and heirs-at-law of the said Isaac and Sidney Gregg, to sell, at public or private sale, certain lots of ground, or any of said lots, situate in the township of St. Clair, and adjoining the borough of Birmingham, in the county of Allegheny, and known and designated in a certain plot of lots recorded in the office for recording of deeds in and for the said county of Allegheny :

And whereas, In consequence of the depreciation in the value of real estate, it is not deemed advisable, under existing circumstances, to make the sale thus authorized; and it has been represented by the said Neville B. Craig and the above named children, all above the age of twenty-one years, that it would promote their interest, and that of all concerned, to raise, on the mortgage of said property, such sum or sums of money as may be deemed advisable for the purposes either of discharging the debts, improving the property, or of re-investment for the benefit of all concerned: Therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly

met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the N. B. Craig, said Neville B. Craig, committee as aforesaid, O. O. Gregg, Isaac committee, &c., Gregg, Moses F. Eaton and Sarah his wife, formerly Sarah E. Gregg, authorized to borand John G. B. Robinson and Sidney his wife, and the survivors or row money. survivor of them, be and the same are hereby authorized to borrow, on such terms as they may deem most advantageous for the interest of all concerned, any sum or sums of money which they may deem advisable for the purposes aforesaid, and to secure the re-payment of the same by a mortgage or mortgages of the property, or any part thereof, above referred to; and that such mortgage or mortgages, so as aforesaid given, shall be good and available in law and equity to all intents and purposes; and that the said money, so as aforesaid raised, shall be paid to the above named persons, or to those who may be lawfully entitled to receive the same.

AN ACT

To confer on Melinda Filbert the rights and privileges of a child born in lawful wedlock.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That from and after the passage of this act, Melinda Filbert, of the township of Upper Tulpehocken, in the county of Berks, daughter of Elizabeth Klein, who, after the birth of said Melinda, was legally intermarried with Daniel Filbert, the father of said Melinda, shall have and enjoy all the rights and privileges of a child born in lawful wedlock; and that she shall be able and capable in law to take, hold, inherit and possess, pass and transmit all and every estate, real and personal, of whatever kind or nature soever, as fully and effectually, to all intents and purposes, as if she had been born in lawful wedlock.

AN ACT

Directing that the borough of Clearfield, in the county of Clearfield, shall be a separate election district.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the borough of Clearfield, in the county of Clearfield, included within the following boundaries, viz: Beginning at the south-west corner of said borough, on the river Susquehanna; thence along said river to the line of land, owned by Matthew Ogden; thence along the line of land of said Ogden, to the south-east corner, at lot number seven; thence northwardly, along the eastern line of out lots, number nine, ten, eleven, twelve and thirteen, to the north-east corner of out lot, number fourteen; thence along the line of land surveyed in the name of Charles Smith, to the river; thence along the river to the north-west corner of said

borough, be and the same is hereby erected into a separate election district; and the qualified electors of said district shall hereafter hold their general and borough elections at the court house, in said borough.

AN ACT

Authorizing the citizens of Hempfield, Franklin, North Huntingdon and Salem townships, in Westmoreland county, to vote at the next constables' election, for or against a new township, out of parts of said townships.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the citizens of Hempfield, Franklin, North Huntingdon and Salem townships, in the county of Westmoreland, shall, at their next annual election for constables of said townships, also determine by ballot, whether there shall be a new township erected out of parts of said townships.

SECTION 2. Each person entitled. to vote for constable in said town- Tickets for or ships, may, at the same time, also vote for or against a new township, against.

by putting in a ticket, the words written or printed thereon, "for a new township," in case he shall vote in favor of it; or "against a new town

ship," if opposed to it.

SECTION 3. The officers of the elections for constables in the said Returns to quartownships, shall make return of the votes polled for and against a new ter sessions. township, to the then next court of quarter sessions of the said county, and if a majority of the voters of the said townships shall be found to be against a new township, then there shall be no new township erected out of parts of said townships; but if a majority shall be found in favor of it, then such new township shall be established agreeably to such order as the said court of quarter sessions shall make in the premises.

SECTION 4. All orders and action of the said court, so far as regards Certain powers such new township, and all proceedings, by virtue thereof, are hereby suspended. suspended until after the holding of the election hereinbefore provided for.

AN ACT

To change the name of a certain young lady therein named.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That Clarissa Taylor, of the borough of Franklin, and State of Pennsylvania, is hereby authorized to change her name from Clarissa Taylor, to Clarissa Taylor Howe, and she shall be henceforth called and known by the name of Clarissa Taylor Howe; and by that name shall be able and capable in law to sue and be sued, to grant and receive property, and to do all other legal acts as effectually, to all intents and purposes, as she could have done under her former name, if no change had been made therein.

To incorporate the borough of West Philadelphia.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That all that portion of the township of Blockley, in the county of Philadelphia, commencing at the intersection of the western line of Hamilton village, and the Darby road; thence along the north westwardly curb line of said road, to the north side of Chestnut street; thence along the curb line on the north side of Chestnut street, to the river Schuylkill, at low water mark; thence northward along the said river to the north line of the property of the city of Philadelphia, on the north side of Washington or Market street continued; thence westwardly along the said north line to its western termination; thence southwardly along the western boundary of said city property, to the north line of Hugh M'Ilvain's property; thence westwardly along the north line of Hugh M'Ilvain's property, to
