No. 1.

RESOLUTION

Relative to the payment of certain moneys to the New Alexandria and
Conemaugh turnpike road company.

Resolved, by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That the State Treasurer be and he is hereby directed to pay to the Treasurer of the New Alexandria and Conemaugh turnpike road company, the sum of seventy-eight dollars and eighty-nine cents, it being the balance due on the appropriation made to said company by an act of Assembly passed on the twenty-sixth day of March, eighteen hundred and twenty-one. No. 2.

RESOLUTION

Appointing a Commissioner to take charge of the Public property at
Erie and Waterford.

WHEREAS, By an act of Assembly, entitled "An act appoint. ing commissioners for the purpose of taking care of the public property at Erie and Waterford, and for other purposes," passed the twentieth day of March, one thousand eight hundred and twelve, Thomas Wilson, John Boyd and John Lytle were ap pointed commissioners to take charge of certain lands specified in said act: And whereas, Thomas Wilson and John Lytle,

two of the said commissioners, died some years since, and the survivor, John Boyd, has declined acting: Therefore,

Resolved, by the Senate and House of Representatives of the
Commonwealth of l'ennsylrania in General Assembly met,
That Rufus S. Reed, of the borough of Erie, be and he is here- Rufus S. Reed
by appointed commissioner to take charge of the land, with its
appurtenances, specified in said act, and to do and perform all acts
and things required to be done and performed by Thomas Wil-
son, John Boyd and John Lytle in said act, as fully and effectu-
ally as the said Wilson, Boyd and Lytle were empowered to
do and act.

RESOLUTION

Relative to placing cars upon the Portage Railway.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That the canal commissioners be, and they are hereby authorized to permit cars to be placed on such parts of the Allegheny Portage rail road, as are or may be finished, and appoint some person or persons to collect toll on said road and make return thereof to the said commissioners, and also to adopt rules and regulations relative to the use of the said road

RESOLUTION

Relative to the claims of John Snodgrass and John Durno.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, - That the canal commissioners be, and they are hereby authorized to settle and adjust the claims of John Snodgrass and John Durno, late contractors on the Allegheny Portage Rail way, and make them such allowance for work they have done, as mayappear equitable and just, and the Auditor General is hereby authorized to audit the same in the way and manner other claims are presented and audited.

RESOLUTION

For the continuing of the commission for revising the code of Pennsyl

vania.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That the term allowed by the resolution relative to the commissioners for revising the code of Pennsylvania, passed on the twenty-seventh of April, one thousand eight hundred and thirtytwo, be and the same is hereby extended and continued for the term of one year, from and after the twenty-third day of March, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-four, upon the same terms, conditions and provisions as in the said resolution are contained.

RESOLUTION

For the relief of John R. Dean, a contractor upon the North Branch dl. vision of the Pennsylvania canal.

WHEREAS it appears from sundry documents that John R. Dean, James D. Gallup and Samuel Thomas became the contractors for the construction of section number eighteen, North Preamble. Branch division, Pennsylvania canal, and that they completed said section in a workmanlike manner: And whereas, It fur ther appears that after the work on said section was commenced, the engineer on said line altered the original location of the canal, in consequence of which the nature of the work became changed to the great disadvantage of the contractors: Therefore,

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That the canal commissioners be directed to pay to John R. John R. Dean Dean, the surviving partner, embankment price according to to receive the contract, for one-half of the common excavation in said sec- embankment tion, as was estimated by the engineer in his final estimate of the price.

RESOLUTION

Relative to the claim of Bilis & Foreman.

Resolved, by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That the canal commissioners are hereby authorized to settle the claim of Bills & Foreman, late contractors on the Beaver division, Pennsylvania canal, on fair and equitable

principles, and, if any thing shall be found due them, to draw their warrant on the treasury for the sum awarded.

RESOLUTIONS

Relative to Weights and Measures.

WHEREAS, the constitution of the United States has vested in Congress the power to fix the standard of weights and measures, so as to secure uniformity throughout the several States, and this power not having been exercised by that body, many irregularities are found to exist injurious to the interest of com merce, which irregularities appear likely to continue for an indefinite period, inasmuch as the State governments will natu rally neglect the regulation of their own weights and measures until the decision of Congress on the subject shall be had.: Therefore,

It is resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met,

I. That the convenience and interest of the people require that Congress should act definitively on the subject of weights and measures, by establishing, with as little delay as possible, the subject. the necessary standards, and furnishing each of the State governments with authentic copies of the same.
