AN ACT

To enable Thomas Chambers, administrator de bonis non, with the will annexed, of the honorable Thomas Duncan, deceased, and Frederick Watts, guardian of the minor children of Robert C. Duncan, deceased, to carry into full effect a certain compromise, and to authorize the Orphans' Court of Westmoreland county to appoint a guardian for Paul Trout.

WHEREAS, Rebecca H. Duncan, widow of Robert C. Duncan, deceased, and Thomas Chambers, esquire, administrator de bonis non, with the will annexed, of the honorable Thomas Duncan, deceased, and Frederick Watts, esquire, guardian of Thomas Duncan and Benjamin S. Duncan, minor children of the said Robert C. Duncan, deceased, have presented their pe tition to the Legislature, at the present session, stating that controversies have existed between the said parties, in relation to certain property therein described, and that they were desirous of compromising the same on terms therein specified, but had not the legal ability to effect this object, and praying for authority to accomplish the same: Therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the said Thomas Chambers, as administrator de T. Duncan had died intestate, seized of the said island and its appurtenances in his demesne as of fee, and to do any act or acts that may be necessary, on the part of the said Thomas Chambers, as administrator as aforesaid, to carry into full effect the compromise F. necessary to convey to the said Thomas Chambers, his heirs and assigns, to be held by him in trust for the purposes expressed in the last will and testament of the honorable Thomas Duncan, deceased, all the right, title, interest and claim of the said minor children, under a devise from the said Thomas Duncan, deceased, contained in his said last will and testament, to and in two tracts of land, described therein as "two tracts of land, one in Newton township, Cumberland county, containing about two hundred and fifty acres, bought from Samuel Calwell, and a tract of about four hundred acres, bought from Nicholas Wall, in Southampton township;" and to do any act or acts that may be necessary on the part of the said Frederick Watts, as guardian as aforesaid, to carry into full effect the said compromisc.

WHEREAS, Thomas Hanna, executor of the last will and tesPreamble to tament of Catharine Trout, late of the township of East Huntingthe 3d sect'n. don, in the county of Westmoreland, deceased, hath, by his petition, represented to the General Assembly, that Paul Trout,a son and legatee of the said Catharine, is deaf and dumb, and by reason of that infirmity is incapable of managing his property, and that he is above the age of twenty-one years: Therefore,

SECTION 3. The Orphans' Court of the said county, if they be satisfied of the truth of the facts aforesaid, be, and they are hereby authorized and required to appoint, upon the application to them for that purpose by the said Thomas Hanna, or any next friend or friends of the said Paul Trout, some suitable person or persons, guardian or guardians of the person and estate of the said Paul Trout; and the said guardian or guardians may be removed, and others appointed in their stead; shall be subject to the same accountability and responsibility, shall give security for the due performance of his or their trust, if the said court shall deem it necessary, in the same manner as guardians appointed by the said court in the ordinary course of law for minors, and shall have all the rights, powers and privileges of such guardians last aforesaid: Provided, That as soon as the said court may be satisfied that the said Paul Trout, by reason of instruction or otherwise, has become capable of taking care of his person and estate, the said guardianship shall

cease.

AN ACT

Granting aid to Washington College.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the Governor shall, on the first day of May next, draw his warrant on the State Treasurer, in favor of the trustees of Washington College, in Washington county, for the sum of two thousand five hundred dollars, and annually thereafter, on the first day of May, for three years, he shall draw his war- Grant of rant in favor of said trustees, for the sum of one thousand $2500. dollars, to be applied to the support of the institution.

AN ACT

For the endowment of La Fayette College at Easton.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the Governor be, and he is hereby authorized and required, at any time between the date of the passage of this act and the first of January next, that may be most convenient Grant of to the treasury, to draw his warrant on the State Treasurer in $12,000 in 5 instalments. favor of the trustees of La Fayette College, for the sum of four thousand dollars, and annually, for four successive years, to draw his warrant in favor of said trustees, for the sum of two thousand dollars, to commence on the first day of May, eighteen hundred and thirty-five: Provided, That no part of the money drawn as above, shall be applied to the payment of

No. 65.

AN ACT

Authorizing the election of additional supervisors in North Beaver township, Beaver county, Ross township, Allegheny county, and West Salem and Mahoning townships, Mercer county.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That from and after the passage of this act, it shall and may be lawful for the electors in North Beaver township, Beaver county, to elect annually, at the usual time and place of electing township officers, four qualified citizens for supervi sors of the roads, who shall be subject to the same penalties, and governed by the same rules and regulations, by which supervisors are by law regulated.

SECTION 2. From and after the passage of this act, it shall and may be lawful for the electors of Ross township, Allegheny county, to elect annually, at their usual place of electing township officers, one additional supervisor, who shall reside in and superintend the roads, in what is called the reserve tract, in said township, subject to the same rules and regula tions by which supervisors are by law regulated.

SECTION 3. From and after the passage of this act, it shall and may be lawful for the electors of West Salem township, Mercer county, to elect annually, at their usual place of electing township officers, four additional supervisors of the highways in said township; and the electors of Mahoning township,

in said county, shall elect four supervisors of highways an

nually, in said township.

AN ACT

To incorporate the Norristown Insurance company of Montgomery county.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That Dr. John H. Hill, James Wells, Adam Slemmer, John B. Sterigere, Philip S. Markley, Jacob Fry, jr. Samuel D. Patterson, Daniel Jacoby, George Richards, John Freedley, George H. Pawling, Philip Reed, William Mintzer, General Henry Scheetz, John Hunsicker, Dr. James Anderson, John Stevens, Henry Longacre, George W. Holstein, Charles Jones, and Matthew Roberts, be, and they are hereby appointed commissioners for receiving subscriptions to the stock of a company, to be denominated the Norristown Insurance company of Name. Montgomery county, who shall open a book for that purpose in the borough of Norristown, at a time and place by them to be appointed, of which they shall give public notice in all the weekly papers published in the said county of Montgomery, for three successive weeks, and in at least one daily paper published in the city of Philadelphia, for the space of one week immediately preceding the time of opening the book as aforesaid; and said book shall be kept open for three successive days, between the hours of ten in the forenoon and three in the afternoon of each day, or until the number of sixteen hundred shares, at fifty dollars per share, shall be subscribed; after which the book shall be closed; all persons of lawful age, being citizens of the United States, shall be permitted to subscribe to the said stock; and on the first day on which said book shall be opened, no person shall be permitted to subscribe for more than five shares; but if the whole of the said stock shall not then have been subscribed, the commissioners shall, on the following and succeeding days, permit any person or persons afore
