HEREAS it is expedient to establish the new Form of Preamble.
Notice for Election of Members to serve in Parliament

Three clear Days' Notice to be given of Elections

in all Cities, Towns and Boroughs in Ireland; BE it Enacted, by The QUEEN's most Excellent MAJESTY, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, THAT in every City or Town of Ireland, being a County of itself, and in every Borough in Ireland returning or contributing to return a Member or Members to serve in Parliament, the Sheriff or other officer to whom the duty of giving such Notice belongs, shall proceed Towns in to Election within Eight Days after the receipt of the Writ or Precept, giving Three clear Days' notice at least of the day appointed for the Election, exclusive of both the day of Proclamation and the day appointed for the Election.

To limit the Time of taking the Poll in Counties at contested
Elections of Members to serve in Parliament to One Day.

Limiting the

duration of

the Poll at Counties.

HEREAS it is expedient that the time of taking the Preamble. Poll at contested Elections of Knights of the Shire be limited to One Day; Be it Enacted, by The QUEEN's most Excellent MAJESTY, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, THAT at any contested Election of a Knight or Knights to serve in Parliament for any County, for any riding, parts or division of a County, the Poll shall be kept open during One Day only (any Law or Statute to the contrary notwith10 standing); and such Poll shall commence at Eight of the clock in the forenoon of the Third day after the day fixed for the Election of each Knight or Knights, and the Polling shall continue during such day only, and no Poll shall be kept open later than Four of the clock in the afternoon.

Provided always, and be it Enacted, That if such Third day after the day of election be Sunday, Good Friday or Christmas-day, then the Poll shall take place on the day next following such Sunday, Good Friday or Christmas-day; and if Christmas-day fall on a Saturday, then on the Monday following.

And be it Enacted, That this Act shall not extend to Ireland.
