To amend an Act of the Fifty-second Year of his late Majesty
King GEORGE the Third, relating to the Offices of the
House of Commons.

HEREAS an Act was passed in the fifty-second year of Preamble: the reign of his Majesty King GEORGE the Third, intituled,

"An Act to repeal an Act passed in the Thirty-ninth and Fortieth` 52 G. 3, c. 11.

Year of his present Majesty, for establishing certain Regulations in the Offices of the House of Commons, and to establish other and further Regulations in the said Offices:" And whereas, in pursuance of the recommendations contained in several Reports from Select Committees of the House of Commons, the whole of the Fees and Sums payable in the several Offices and Departments of the said House are now paid to the account of the Commissioners for regulating the Offices of the House of Commons, appointed by virtue of the said recited Act, and the Salaries and Expenses of the said House are annually voted by Parliament; and it is therefore expedient to amend the said Act; BE it therefore Enacted, by The QUEEN's 15 most Excellent MAJESTY, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the Authority of the same, THAT all the Fees and sums of money payable to The Speaker and the several Clerks and Officers of the House of Commons shall (unless 20 where otherwise provided by the said recited Act) be paid to the person appointed, or to be appointed, by the Commissioners acting under the said Act to collect the Salaries, Fees, Perquisites and Emoluments of the Clerks and Officers of said House, and shall be by him paid into the Bank of England, to the account directed to be established by the said Act, and called "The 594

3. Application of Fee Fund.

Account of the Commissioners for regulating the Offices of the House of Commons," and the person so collecting such sums shall from time to time, and at such times and in such manner as The Speaker of the House of Commons or the said Commissioners shall direct, render to the said Speaker or Commissioners a full and true account of all the sums of money to be received by him by virtue of this and the said recited Act.

And be it Enacted, That any Draft or Order signed by The Speaker of the House of Commons for the time being and one other of the said Commissioners at the least shall be a sufficient authority 10 to the Cashier of the Governor and Company of the Bank of England for the payment of the said Draft or Order out of the monies standing to the credit of the said account, without the signature of other of the said Commissioners thereto; and, for the purposes of the said recited Act and this Act, the person who shall fill the office 15 of Speaker of the House of Commons at the time of any dissolution of Parliament shall be deemed to be The Speaker of the House of Commons until a Speaker shall be chosen by the new Parliament.

And be it Enacted, That the money so paid to the said account shall be applied in payment of the salaries of the Clerk, Clerk Assist- 20 ants, Serjeant, Deputy Serjeant, and Speaker's Secretary, as directed by the said Act or any other Act for the time being relating to such offices, and also of the salaries, allowances and superannuations of the Clerks and Officers of the said House, together with the other charges and expenses thereof, as the same may from time to time 25 be directed by the said Speaker or by the said Commissioners, in conformity with any estimate of such salaries, allowances, superannuations, charges and expenses which may have received the sanction of the House of Commons; and in case the monies standing to the said account shall at any time be more than sufficient to pay and dis- 30 charge all such salaries and other charges, the surplus shall be paid into the receipt of the Exchequer to the credit of the Consolidated Fund of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland; and so much of the said recited Act as requires a statement of the monies remaining to the account of the said Commissioners, with a plan of the proposed 35 expenditure thereof to be in every Session laid before the House of Commons, and as directs the application of the residue of such monies, shall be and the same is hereby repealed.
