ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION: Girls Clubs of America, Inc. (GCA, Inc.) is the parent organization for 258 local Girls Clubs in 128 cities in the United States, servicing approximately 210,000 girls from ages 6 to 18. The goal of GCA, Inc. is to take a leading role as an advocate for the rights of girls from all backgrounds. GCA, Inc. provides opportunities for girls to recognize their worth as human beings and to develop their full potential through various activities. Some of those activities include: employment preparation, adolescent health and sex education, physical fitness and athletic competition, individual and group counseling, tutoring, and arts and crafts.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION: The overall goal of Future Homemakers of America is to help young people assume their roles in society through Home Economics Education in the areas of personal growth, family life, vocational preparation and community involvement. The national headquarters has provided a seven step process for chapter members. This "process" will enable them to identify concerns related to Home Economics Curriculum and to use these concerns and issues as a basis for chapters to develop activities and projects for their communities. The Future Homemakers of America jointly sponsors a peer education program with the National March of Dimes. This program is designed to train students in a course called "Healthy Babies-Chance or Choice". Two million teenagers have been reached through this project. The agency has also recently started a pilot project in nutrition education called "The Student Body" for chapter members in several states.

REGIONAL OR STATE OFFICES: There are 52 state associations throughout the United States and 12,700 local chapters. For information on local chapters, contact the local high school Home Economics Department in your area.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION: The National 4-H is the youth education program under the Cooperative Extension Service conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the state land-grant universities. The local programs provide projects and activities for urban and rural youth. Some of the special programs include: cultural and understanding exchanges; health, personal development and relationships; leisure education and cultural arts; economics, jobs and careers; community development, services and government; ecology and natural resources; animals and poultry; plants and soils; energy, machines and equipment; individual and family resources; and communication arts and sciences.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION: The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 and has since offered religious and social services to millions of needy people throughout the United States and Europe. The Salvation Army offers services to help families in any appropriate way. Some of the organization's programs include: summer camps for over 25,000 children; thirty-five maternity homes and hospitals; rehabilitative employment services for men; services for unmarried parents; day care for children and senior citizens; and many others. The overall goal of The Salvation Army is to assist all people in need, and to lead men and women to a personal relationship with God.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION: The operating goal for the YMCA through 1984 is stated as "through effective use of all resources and capabilities, including expanded collaboration with other organizations, to contribute to improving human conditions in communities, at home and abroad." To carry out its goals the national office has developed extensive youth, parent-child and family life programs for the local chapters. The local YMCA provides education, recreation and social services to its membership and the community.
