WHEREAS an Act was paffed in the Forty ninth Year of 49 G. 3. c. 191.

the Reign of His prefent Majefty, intituled An A&. for building a Bridge over the River Thames, from the Precinct of the Savoy, or near thereunto, in the County of Middlefex, to the oppofite Shore; and for making convenient Roads and Avenues to communicate therewith in the County of Surrey, whereby the Company of Proprietors of the Strand Bridge were incorporated for the Purpose of building the faid Bridge, and completing the Roads and • Works therein mentioned: And Whereas the faid Company have 56 GEO. III. invefted,

invefted the Sum of Fifty thoufand Pounds Sterling in the Purchafes of Reduced Bank Annuities, in the Names of the Trustees 53 G. 3. c. 184. mentioned in the faid recited A&t: And Whereas an Act was paffed in the Fifty third Year of the Reign of His prefent Majefty, intituled An Ad for altering, enlarging and extending the Powers of an Act of His prefent Majefty, for building a Bridge over the River Thames, at the Precinct of the Savoy, or near thereunto; and making Roads and Avenues to communicate therewith, in the Counties of Middlefex and Surrey: And Whereas the faid Company have proceeded in the Execution of the several Works by the faid recited Acts authorized, and have completed the Arches of the faid Bridge: And Whereas it is expedient for the Purposes of the faid Acts, that Part of a certain Road or Street called Narrow Wall, near the Abutment of the faid Bridge, in the County of • Surrey, fhould be stopped up, and that a more direct Communication 'fhould be made from or near a certain Street or Road called the • Commercial Road lying on the Eastern Side of the intended Road < from the said Bridge, to the Obelisk in Saint George's Fields, in the faid County of Surrey, to that Part of the said Street or Road 'called Narrow Wall, which lies on the Western Side of a certain House, Slaughter House and Yard, in the Occupation of Alexander Everard, by a new Road to be made by the faid Company for that Purpose, and also that the faid Company fhould have Power to make an Archway over Part of the faid new Road; and it is also expedient that fome of the Provifions of the faid Acts, or one of them, fhould be altered and amended:' May it therefore please Your Majefty, that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by The King's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That fo much of the faid recited Act of the Fifty third Year of the Reign of His prefent Majefty as enacts, that nothing therein or in the faid recited Act of the Forty ninth Year of the Reign of His prefent Majefty contained, fhould extend or be deemed or conftrued to extend to enable the said Company of Proprietors to ftop up or obftruct the Way or Street called Narrow Wall, in the Parish of Saint Mary Lambeth, in the County of Surrey, fhall be and the fame is hereby repealed.

§ 21. repealed.

Power to stop up Part of

Narrow Wall.

II. And be it further enacted, That the faid Company of Proprietors fhall and may and they are hereby authorized and empowered to stop up that Part of the prefent Road or Way called Narrow Wall, which lies between the Eaftern End of the intended new Road by this Act authorized to be made, and the Western End or Side of the Premises belonging to or occupied by Alexander Everard: Provided always, that nothing herein contained shall extend or be construed to extend to authorize, empower or enable the said Company of Proprietors to stop up, obftruct or alter any Part of the faid Street or Way called Narrow Wall, except only fuch Part as is herein particularly mentioned and fpecified, and within the Limits prefcribed by this Act, any thing herein contained to the contrary thereof in anywife notwithstanding: Provided alfo, that nothing herein contained fhall extend or be conftrued to extend to enable the faid Company of Proprietors to ftop up that Part of the faid Street or Way called Narrow Wall, hereinbefore mentioned, until the

III. And be it further enacted, That when and fo foon as that Road to be Part of the faid Road or Way called Narrow Wall, hereinbefore de- ftopped up how fcribed, fhall be stopped up by virtue of the Provifions of this Act, to be difpofed in refpect thereof, that Part of the fame, which will lie on the Weft Side of the intended Road from the faid Bridge to the Obelisk, shall be and become vefted in His Grace the Archbishop of Canterbury, and fhall be thenceforth Part and Parcel of the Poffeffions of the See of Canterbury, but fubject to be occupied by the Leffees of the adjoining Lands until the Expiration of their Leases; and that Part of the fame which fhall lie on the South Side of so much of the Wharf called Hearne's Wharf, as lies Eastward of the faid Bridge, fhall be and become vested in the faid Archbishop, and shall be thenceforth Part and Parcel of the Poffeffions of the faid See, but fubject as aforefaid, and alfo with, under and subject to all fuch and the fame Powers and Provifions as the fame would have been fubject to under or by virtue of the faid recited Acts or either of them, in cafe the fame had been included in the Schedule to the faid first recited A&; and that Part of the fame which fhall lie on the Site of the faid intended Road from the faid Bridge to the Obelisk, and on the South Side of the Wharf belonging to the Company, formerly the Property of Jervoife Clerk Jervoife, fhall thenceforth be and become vefted in the faid Company, and the Refidue thereof fhall be conveyed by the faid Company to and become vested in His Royal Highnefs the Prince of Wales as Duke of Cornwall, and fhall thenceforth be Part and Parcel of the Estate of the Duchy of Cornwall called Prince's Meadows, pursuant to the Provifions of this Act.

IV. And be it further enacted, That the faid Company of Proprietors fhall have full Power and Authority, by virtue of this Act, to make and conftruct (in lieu of that Part of the faid Street or Way called Narrow Wall by this Act authorized to be stopped up) a Road or Way of the Width of Thirty Feet and no more, from or from near to a certain Road called the Commercial Road, at or near where the faid Road adjoins the faid Street or Way called Narrow Wall, on the Eastern Side of the intended Road leading from the faid Bridge to the Obelisk in Saint George's Fields, to or near that Part of the faid Street or Way called Narrow Wall, on the Western Side of the faid intended Road from the faid Bridge to the Obelisk aforefaid, which adjoins or is near to the Western Part of the faid House, Slaughter House and Yard, in the Occupation of Alexander Everard, in manner defcribed and delineated in the Map or Plan hereinafter mentioned; and it shall be lawful for the faid Company, and they are hereby fully authorized and empowered, to take and ufe the feveral Lands, Grounds, Houfes, Tenements and Hereditaments mentioned and specified in the Schedule to this Act annexed, for the Purposes of the faid recited Acts and this Act, and for completing the feveral Works in the said recited Acts and this Act mentioned, firft making Compenfation for the fame in manner directed by the said first recited Act or this Act, and fubject to the Provisions and Regulations concerning the Purchase of Lands and Hereditaments contained in the faid first recited A&t, except fo far as the faid Provifions and Regulations are repealed or altered by this A&;

and it fhall also be lawful for the faid Company, and for their Engineer, or Surveyor or Surveyors, and Workmen, from time to time to enter upon the Lands and Premifes through which or whereupon fuch Road or Alterations is or are intended to be made or país, and alfo upon any adjoining Lands or Grounds, and to ftake out fuch Road or Alterations, in fuch manner as the faid Company, or their Engineer or Surveyor, fhall think neceffary or proper, without being deemed a Trefpaffer or Trefpaffers, and without being fubject or liable to any Fine, Penalty or Punishment for entering or continuing upon fuch. Lands or Premifes refpectively, for any of the Purposes of this Act; and if any Perfon fhall pull up, remove or deftroy, any of the Stakes or other Marks ufed in laying out fuch Road or Alterations, every Person fo offending shall forfeit and pay for every fuch Offence any Sum not exceeding Five Pounds.

V. And Whereas a Map or Plan, and Book of Reference, defcribing and delineating the intended new Road from the Commercial Road to Narrow Wall aforefaid, and the Premifes mentioned and • contained in the said Schedule to this A&t annexed, have been depofited with the Clerk of the Peace for the faid County of Surrey;' Be it therefore further enacted, That the faid Map or Plan, and Book of Reference, shall remain in the Cuftody of the faid Clerk of the Peace, to the end that all Perfons interested therein may at all feasonable times have Liberty to infpect and perufe the fame, and take Copies or Extracts thereof, at their Will and Pleasure, paying to fuch Clerk of the Peace the Sum of One Shilling for every fuch Infpection, and after the Rate of Sixpence for every Seventy two Words of fuch Copies or Extracts of the faid Book of Reference; and that the faid Company in making the faid Road fhall not deviate more than Five Yards of Three Feet each from the Line defcribed in the faid Map or Plan, without the Confent and Approbation in Writing of the Perfon or Perfons, Bodies Politic, Corporate or Collegiate, through whofe Lands or Premifes fuch

Deviation fhall be made.

VI. Provided always, and be it further enacted, That the faid Company shall have full Power and Authority to make and conftruct the faid Road hereby authorized to be made, and may purchafe and pofes of this Act. take Poffeffion for the Purposes of the faid recited Acts and this Act, of any of the Lands, Grounds, Houses, Buildings, Tenements and Hereditaments fet out or mentioned and defcribed in the faid Plan and Book of Reference, or in the Schedule to this A&t annexed, notwithstanding the Name or Names of any Perfon or Perfons fhall or may have been omitted or miftated, or incorrectly fpelt in the faid Book of Reference or Schedule, in cafe it fhall appear to any Two or more Juftices of the Peace for the faid County of Surrey, and be certified by Writing under their Hands that fuch Error, Omiffion or incorrect Defcription proceeded from Miftake.

Compenfation for Buildings required for New Road.

VII. And be it further enacted, That the faid Company shall make Compenfation to the Owners and Occupiers of the feveral Buildings required to be taken down for the Purpose of making the faid New Road herein authorized, in lieu of the faid Part of Narrow Wall to be topped up, for the Value of fuch Buildings only; and alfo for any incidental Damage to be fuftained by the taking and ufing thereof, in manner directed by the faid recited Act of the Forty ninth Year of His prefent Majefty, in refpect of Houfes,
