An act providing for the extermination of the Boophilus annulatus tick, defining certain crimes and providing for certain civil and criminal actions. [Approved March 21, 1907. Stats. 1907, p. 763.]

This act prevented the sale of cattle or other livestock infested with the Boophilus annulatus tick.

АСТ 178.

An act to prevent the spread of contagious diseases among animals. [Approved March 20, 1905. Stats. 1905, p. 317.]

§1. Any person having the care, custody or control of any animal that dies from tuberculosis, glanders, farcy, Texas fever, or other infectious disease, shall immediately upon the death of such animal cremate or bury the same, or cause the same to be cremated or buried.

§ 2. Any common carrier of persons or freight that shall transport any animal suffering with or that has died from the diseases, or any of them, mentioned in section 1 of this act a greater distance than is necessary to transport such animal to the nearest crematory, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor.

§ 3. No animal that has died of any of the diseases named in section 1 of this act, shall be sold, used or permitted to be used for the food of human beings or sold, used or permitted to be used for the food of any domestic animal or fowl.

§ 4. Any person, firm or corporation that shall violate any of the provisions of this act shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon a conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine of not less than $50 and not more than $500, or by imprisonment in the county jail for a term not exceeding 180 days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.

§ 5. This act shall take effect immediately.

ACT 180.

To protect domestic livestock from contagious and infectious diseases, to provide for the appointment and duties of officials to carry into effect the provisions of this act, and to provide an appropriation therefor. [Stats. 1899, p. 129.]

This act created the office of state veterinarian, and prescribed his powers and duties.

ACT 180a.

An act authorizing the state veterinarian to employ during the balance of the sixtieth, and throughout the sixty-first and sixty-second fiscal years such inspectors as he may deem necessary to inspect and supervise the dipping of sheep infected with a disease known as scabies; providing for the compensation and expenses of said inspectors, and making an appropriation therefor. [Approved March 10, 1909. Stats. 1909, p. 278.]

This act required hides of cattle to be kept fifteen days, and made provisions as to branding of calves, and required records to be kept of slaughtered animals. It was continued in force by Political Code, § 19, and Penal Code, § 23.
