RAILROAD SERVICES AND RATES 1

RAILROADS

The port of Bellingham, Wash., is served by the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad, the Great Northern Railway, and Northern Pacific Railway, all of which are described under the port of Everett, page 29.

FACILITIES FOR INTERCHANGE BETWEEN RAIL AND WATER

The port of Bellingham dock, the citizens dock, the Quackenbush dock, and the dock of the Bellingham Warehouse Co., in South Bellingham are the only wharves in Bellingham which are used for commercial purposes. The port of Bellingham dock is served by a private spur through which connections can be made by all railroads entering the city. There are no tracks on the other two commercial wharves. The city dock is, however, served by a spur track of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad which is located at its street end. The wharf and warehouses of the Bellingham Warehouse Co. are served by both the Great Northern Railway and the Northern Pacific Railway.

While the Great Northern tracks extend along the entire water front they serve only those wharves on the South Bellingham shore, extending from the plant of the Bellingham Canning Co. to that of the Bloedel-Donovan Lumber Co. The Northern Pacific Railway serves the plant of the Bellingham Warehouse Co. Tracks of the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul & Pacific Railroad serve practically all wharves and industrial companies north of and including the plant of the Bloedel-Donovan Lumber Co., the plant of the Olympic Portland Cement Co. being connected with that system by a private spur.
