CHAP. CLXVIII.

An ACT to amend the act establishing the Croton Turnpike road, and for other purposes.

Passed April 8, 1811. 'N compliance with the petition of the president, directors and company of the Croton turnpike, I. Be it enacted by the people of the state of Nework, represented in senate and assembly, That it shall and may be lawful for the president, directors and company, in case they shall think it necessary, to change the site fixed by the commissioners for a bridge over the Croton river, at or near Pine's bridge, to such other place as they shall think most advisable for the public convenience; and that in case such change shall be made, to change the route of that section of the road so as to connect it with the said bridge; and in case of a disagreement between the president, directors and company and the owners, proprietors or possessors of such land as may be necessary for such road and bridge, with respect to the amount of the damages such owners, proprietors or possessors may sustain, suffer, or be entitled to receive from the said president, directors and company, the said damages shall be assessed in like manner and on the same principles as provided by the general act, passed 13th March, 1807, relative to turnpike companies.

II. And be it further enacted, That the said road, as worked and constructed by the said company, or their agents, (notwithstanding it may deviate in some few places from the exact course as laid out by the commissioners) shall be and the same is hereby confirmed and established as the Croton turnpike road.

III. And be it further enacted, That the annual meeting of the stockholders of the said company for the purpose of choosing directors shall be on the first Monday of October in every year instead of the time now fixed by law, with the like powers of adjourn ment, and privileges in relation thereto, as is provided by the act relative to turnpike companies.

II. And be it further enacted, That William Tabor, Samuel Haviland, Benjamin Cowls and Stephen Bar- Commiss'rs num are hereby appointed commissioners, who shall, on subscrip or before the first day of June next, receive subscrip- tions aptions for the stock of the said corporation, which stock shall consist of seven hundred shares at twenty dollars a share, in the manner directed in and by the act entitled "An act relative to turnpike companies," passed the 13th day of March, 1807.

III. And be it further enacted, That the company Rates of toll hereby incorporated shall be entitled to exact and receive at the gate to be erected on said road from all persons using the same, the following rates of toll, to wit: for every waggon with two horses or oxen, twelve and an half cents, and four cents for every additional horse or ox used before any waggon, cart or other carriage; for every one horse cart, six cents; for every coach, coachee, phaeton or curricle with two horses, twentyfive cents; for every sulkey, chair, chaise or other one horse carriage, twelve and an half cents; for every cart drawn by two oxen, eight cents; and for every additional yoke, four cents; for every horse and rider or led horse, four cents; for every sleigh or sled drawn every addiby two horses or oxen, six cents; and for tional horse or ox, two cents; for every score of cattle, horses or mules, twenty cents, and so in proportion for a greater or less number; for every score of sheep or hogs, eight cents; for every stage waggon drawn by two horses, twelve and an half cents, and three cents for every additional horse.

IV. And be it further enacted, That the company Rights and hereby incorporated shall have and enjoy all the rights, of the comprivileges, powers and immunities which are given and pany. granted in and by the aforesaid act entitled "An act relative to turnpike companies," and shall be subject to all the conditions, provisions, restrictions and regulations in the said act.

V. And be it further enacted, That the gate to be erected as aforesaid, shall not be placed within less than one mile of the south end of the said road, and that nothing in this act contained shall be construed to authorise the said company to ask or receive more than

CHAP. CLXX.

An ACT to amend "An act to incorporate the Nev isink turnpike road company."

Passed April 8th, 1811. HEREAS the president and directors of the Nevisink turnpike road company, incorporated on the 6th day of April, 18C5, have by their petition, under the common seal of the said company, petitioned the legislature for an alteration in their grant in reducing the arch of the said road between the Wawarsing meeting-house and Chenango point, to the width of twenty-two feet, which it is expedient to grant: Therefore,

BE it enacted by the people of the state of New-York, represented in senate and assembly, That it shall and may be lawful for the president, directors and stockholders of the said company, to contract and reduce the arch of that portion of the turnpike road for which they are incorporated, between the Wawarsing meeting-house and Chenango point, to the width of twenty-two feet, and the persons to be appointed for the inspection of the said section of road shall be and here.. by are authorised and required to pass the said section of road, when finished, at the said reduced width, any thing in the act whereby they are incorporated to the contrary notwithstanding.

New-Stockbridge Indians, and to explain the act for
the benefit of the Brothertown Indians, passed April
8th, 1808, relating to the name of George Crosley.

York, represented in Senate and Assembly, That
the sales made by the superintendents of the New-
Stockbridge Indians, by virtue of authority given them
by law for that purpose, of certain lands belonging to the
said Indians, and the mortgages taken by the said su-
