An ACT for the further encouragement of free schools in the city of New-York.

Passed March 30, 1811. HEREAS the trustees of the free school soci ety of New-York have, by their memorial solicited the aid of the Legislature in extending the ben. efits of their institution: Therefore,

I. CHAP. LXXXVI.

An ACT for the benefit of the Orphan Asylum Society.
Passed March 30, 1811.

E it enacted by the people of the state of NewYork, represented in Senate and Assembly, That the treasurer shall pay, until the further order of the legislature, to the trustees of the orphan assylum society in the city of New-York, the annual sum of five hundred dollars out of the fund arising from auction duties, and appropriated to the support of foreign poor in the city of New-York, and that the first payment under this act shall be made on the first day of May next.

CHAP. LXXXVII.

An ACT to vest certain powers and privileges in the freeholders and inhabitants of the village of Little Falls, in the county of Herkimer.

E it enacted by the people of the state of NewYork, represented in Senate and Assembly, That the village all that part of the town of Herkimer, in the town and of Little county of Herkimer, contained in the following bounds, beginning at a point or place on the north side of the Mohawk river, at the corner between the lands occupied by Robert Hinchman and Jost Tygart, thence in a northerly direction to the southern boundery of Evans Wharry's farm, thence easterly along the ridge of high lands to the boundary line between the counties of Herkimer and Montgomery, thence southerly along the said boundary line to the north shore of the Mohawk river, thence along the said shore to the place of beginning, shall for fifteen years be known and distinguished by the name of " the village of Little Falls ;" and the freeholders and inhabitants of the said village residing within the same, qualified to vote at town meetings, shall annually, on the first Tuesday in May, meet at some proper place to be appointed by the trustees, and notified to the inhabitants of said village at least one week previous thereto, and then and there proceed to choose five discreet freeholders resident within said village,

And be it further enacted, That all the freeholders and inhabitants residing within the aforesaid limits be and they are hereby ordained, constituted Style of the and declared to be from time to time, and forever corporation hereafter, a body politic and corporate, in name and in fact, by the name and style of the trustees of the village of Little Falls," and by that name they and their successors forever shall and may have perpetuall succession, and be persons in law capable of suing and being sued, and of defending and being defended in all courts and places whatsoever, and in all manner of actions, causes or complaints whatsoever, and that they and their successors may have a common seal, and may change and alter the same at pleasure, and shall be in law capable of purchasing, holding and conveying any estate real or personal, for the public use of said village, and of erecting any buildings, digging any reservoirs for water for the use of said village, and of raising a sum not exceeding five hundred dollars in any one year, for erecting such buildings, diging such reservoirs, or for improving or repairing such buildings and reservoirs, for purchasing and keeping in repair fire engines, ladders, buckets, and other instruments and utensils for the extinguishing of fires, and for the making of any other improvements or regulations in said village that the said trustees may from Consent of time to time deem necessary: Provided, That no tax frechts shall be levied or money raised, assessed or collected for raising for the purposes aforesaid, and no purchase or sale of any real estate to be made, and no public building or reservoir to be made or disposed of, without the consent of the freeholders of said village, or the major part thereof, in open and legal meeting first obtained.
