AND PORT HUENEME, CALIFORNIA OIL HANDLING AND BUNKERING Twenty-nine waterfront facilities described in this report are equipped to receive and/or ship crude oil or petroleum products. One is operated by the City of Los Angeles, Department of Water and Power, for receipt of fuel oil for plant consumption. Eleven of the facilities provide bunkering service for vessels; however, deep-draft vessels are usually bunkered at berth by tank barges based at the ports. These barges, together with their capacities and sizes, are listed separately in the table of "Floating Equipment" beginning on page 177. Five of the oil companies operating waterfront facilities at the port have pipeline connections between storage tanks at their waterfront locations and their inland refineries in the Los Angeles area. The table on pages 141 and 142 gives information on the facilities equipped to handle petroleum products; details are given in the table of "Piers, Wharves, and Docks," beginning on page 75 under the reference numbers indicated. Tank storage at marine service stations is not necessarily included in this report. LIQUID BULK HANDLING Six companies at seven of the waterfront facilities described in this report handle miscellaneous, liquid bulk materials other than petroleum. The commodities handled include molasses, vegetable oil, caustic soda, coconut oil, and various chemicals. Three of the companies maintain public terminals at the waterfront facilities. A summary of these liquid-bulk-handling facilities is given in the table below. Complete descriptions of each facility are given in the table of "Piers, Wharves, and Docks" beginning on page 75. |
