Excerpt from Catalogue of the Plants of Kumaon and of the Adjacent Portions of Garhwal and Tibet: Based on the Collections Made by Strachey and Winterbottom During the Years 1846 to 1849 and on the Catalogue Originally Prepared in 1852

When the Catalogue was published in 1882 only two volumes and a portion of vol. Iii. Of the Flora of British India had appeared; and as thirty-four years have elapsed since the latter work was commenced, it is not surprising to find in the new list considerable alterations in nomenclature. For the benefit of those who may wish to verify in some of the new names the identifications of many of the discarded names of the old cata logue, an alphabetically arranged list of equivalents has been prepared, and will be found on pages 248-261, immediately preceding the Index to the Orders and Genera.
