Since I commenced writing these short sketches, I have recurred so often to names once familiar, and to scenes of my early youth and school-boy days, when there was not a cloud to obscure my sun, nor a ripple upon my sea of life, when every brook and tree were as old acquaintances, I have been ready to exclaim with the poet.
