In this new edition, Berreman returns to this village after ten years to record the ethnographic continuity and change in village lifestyle. A new prologue adds important insights to the bases for the ethnographic descriptions and analyses by outlining the research conditions of this study. A new epilogue records Berreman's findings after revisiting the village--focusing on the trends found in the village and the surrounding region to draw implications for the country at large.
