An Act to incorporate the Jersey Shore Automatic Railroad

Company.

1. BE IT ENACTED by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey, That Amariah Lake, William Rice, Jesse S. Lake, John Burroughs, Lucas Lake, Peter B. Risley, Joshua Lake, Nicholas Bowen, Joseph Sharp, together with such persons as shall subscribe to the stock hereby authorized, and their successors, be and are hereby constituted a body corporate and politic in law, by the name of "The Jersey Shore Automatic Railroad Company," and by that name shall have power to sue and to be ued, to defend and be defended, in all courts of law and equity, for the purpose of carrying passengers or freight on the Jersey strand, the cars to be drawn either by steam or horse-power; the cars are to be made on the plan of Jesse S. Lake's patent self-track-laying car, said cars to be used on any of Jersey strand bordering on the Atlantic ocean and Delaware bay, between Sandy Hook Point and Goshen Creek.

An Act to authorize the Mayor and Aldermen of the city of
Paterson to become stockholders in the Citizens' Gas Light
Company of Paterson.

WHEREAS, it is proposed to construct gas works in the city of Paterson under and by authority of an act entitled "An Act to incorporate the Citizens' Gas Light Company of Paterson," approved March twenty-ninth, eighteen hundred and sixty-five, and it is deemed desirable that the city of Paterson in its corporate capacity should become stockholders therein; therefore,

1. BE IT ENACTED by the Senate and General Assembly of become stock- the State of New Jersey, That it shall be lawful for the mayor and aldermen of the city of Paterson to subscribe for and to hold stock in said "Citizens' Gas Light Company of Paterson," to such an amount as they may by ordinance prescribe, not exceeding twenty-five thousand dollars, and to provide for the payment thereof by tax, which shall be assessed and collected as other taxes in said city are assessed and collected, which stock shall give to the said mayor and aldermen the same rights and privileges in said company in all respects as individual stockholders have or may have therein.

2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect immediately.

And be it enacted, That the said company be, and they May borrow are hereby authorized to borrow two millions of dollars for bond and the construction and equipment of their road, and to secure the repayment thereof by bonds or by mortgages on the property, privileges and franchises of the said company, and also that the payment of the principal and interest of said bonds and mortgages may be guaranteed by the Morris and Essex Railroad Company, upon such terms as may be agreed upon between the last named company and the Miners, Manufacturers and Farmers' Railroad Company, and also that the said the Miners, Manufacturers and Farmers' Railroad Company may lease their road to the Morris and Essex Railroad Company; and that any other than municipal corporation created by any existing law of this state may subscribe to the capital stock of the company, and hold the same as stockholders therein, and dispose of the same.

3. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect immediately.
