ARE NOTED FOR THEIR FIRM, SMOOTH TEXTURE AND STRONG, RICH COLORS.

FRANKLIN CRAYONS blend and overwork nicely, and are superior in many respects to chalk or water colors.

The Summer School of the Rhode Island School of Design, under Mr. Augustus F. Rose, has issued a most attractive circular printed and bound in green.

The Commonwealth Colony at Boothbay Harbor on the coast of Maine advertises itself attractively as a place for work and play.

The new home of the Trenton School of Industrial Arts is one of the handsomest art educational buildings in the United States. The faculty of this flourishing institution, under the direction of Mr. Frank Forest Frederick, now numbers twenty members.

✦The Applied Arts Summer School for the Middle West is to be located at Lincoln Center, Chicago. Among recent additions to the faculty are Miss Marguerite Calkins of the Chicago School of Applied and Normal Art, and Mr. Webb of the Lewis Institute, Chicago. The eastern branch of the school will be held at Boothbay Harbor, Maine, as a part of the Commonwealth Art Colony.

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, is rapidly acquiring distinction for the beauty of its ever-increasing collection of Greek originals. One of the most charming recent additions is the head of a goddess from Chios, Greek work of the fourth century, B. C., greatly admired by Rodin.

✦When in need of drawing tables and filing cases, an illustrated catalog of the Economy Drawing Table Company, Toledo, Ohio, would be worth looking over.

HANDWORK
IN WOOD

T

By WILLIAM NOYES

Assistant Professor of Industrial Art
Teachers College, New York City

HIS is the best book on woodworking ever written for teachers. In some respects it is the most notable book on woodworking ever written for any purpose. It is the result of extensive research and long experience in teaching and in training teachers. It is such a comprehensive and scholarly treatment of the subject that we believe it will become the one book of reference which teachers of woodworking will feel that they must always have at hand. It is admirably illustrated with photographs, and numerous pen drawings by Anna Gausmann Noyes. Price $2.00.
