T the Provincial Parliament begun and holden at Quebec, the twenty fourth day of January, Anno Domini one thousand feven hundred and ninety seven, in the thirty seventh Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord GEORGE the Third, by the Grace of GOD, of Great Britain, France and Ireland KING, Defender of the Faith, &c. And from thence continued by feveral Prorogations to the fifth day of March, one thousand eight hundred, being the fourth Sellion of the fecond Provincial Parliament of LOWER-CANADA. CA P. I. Preamble An Act to provide Returning Officers for Knights, Citizens and Burgeffes to serve in Affembly, and regulating Elections to be held for that purpofe. (29th. MAY, 1800.) HEREAS an A&t paffed in the thirty third year of His Majefty's Reign, intituled, "An Ad to provide Returning Officers for An ghts, Citizens and Burgeffes to ferve "in Affembly," has been by several Acts continued to the firft day of January in this prefent year, and from thence to the end of the prefent Sellion of the Provincial Parliament at which time it will expire; and Whereas it is neceffary to make further and more ample Provifion, relpecting Returning Officers and regulating the Elections of Knights, Citizens and Burgeffes to ferve in Affembly, Be it therefore enacted by the King's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the advice and confent of the Legiflative Council and Affembly of the Province of Lower Canada, conftituted and affembled by virtue of STATUT PROVINCIAL Ao DU BAS-CA NA D A. III. Cap. premier jour de Janvier de cette préfente Année, et de là jufqu'à la fin de la préfente Seffion du Parlement Provincial, auquel tems il expirera; et Attendu qu'il est nécessaire de faire une provifion plus ample et plus étendue au fujet des Officiers Rapporteurs, et pour régler l'Election des Chevaliers, Citoyens et Bourgeois pour fervir dans l'Af femblée, qu'il foit donc ftatué par la très Excellente Majefté du Roi, par et de l'avis et confentement du Confeil Législatif et de l'Affemblée de la Province du Bas-Canada, conftitués |
