LITTLE FALLS, HERKIMER COUNTY.

Incorporated as a city May 8, 1895, by chapter 565, Laws of

1895.

Twelve enumerators employed at an expense of $80.04.

Enumeration showed a population of 9,834.

LESTERSHIRE, BROOME COUNTY.

Incorporated as a village in 1892.

Enumerated September 28th and 29th, 1896.

Eight enumerators employed at an expense of $25.04.

Enumeration showed a population of 1,898.

The work of each enumerator in the above-specified enumerations is sworn to, as shown in each book containing any part of said enumerations.

Several other cities and villages were visited, but were not enumerated for the reason that an examination of the records of their respective counties showed them to have been incorporated before the United States census of 1890; or, from information received from trustworthy and reliable sources, it was apparent that

an enumeration would simply be a waste of money, since it could not increase or decrease the population sufficiently to require a different classification from that already fixed by estimate.

OLEAN, CATTARAUGUS COUNTY.

Incorporated as a city April 25, 1893, by chapter 478, Laws of 1893.

A careful enumeration for the purpose of a city directory was finished July 1, 1895, and showed a total population of 9,120. Estimated April 15, 1896, at less than 10,000.

GOWANDA, CATTARAUGUS COUNTY.

Incorporated on or about August 14, 1878.

Certificate of incorporation not on file in county clerk's office; has a de facto village government.

Visited June 9, 1896.

Estimated population, 2,200.

BOLIVAR, ALLEGANY COUNTY.

Incorporated during the year 1882.

Visited June 10, 1896.

Estimated population from 1,000 to 1,100.

ARCADE, WYOMING COUNTY.

Incorporated during the year 1871.

Visited June 10, 1896.

Estimated population, 1,000.

ELMIRA HEIGHTS, CHEMUNG COUNTY.

Incorporated on or about April 10, 1896.

Enumeration for the purpose of incorporation showed popula

tion of 1,309.

Visited June 12, 1896.

Estimated population, 1,300.

There has been expended for superintendence of enumeration and classification of the cities, villages and "other places," and for incidental clerk hire for the purpose of fixing the amount to be charged for liquor tax certificates in the several localities of the State, the sum of $1,706.22.
