Directors of the poor of Dauphin County authorized to sell a mill plantation, &c. and part of a CHAPTER VII. An ACT to authorize the directors of the poor of Dauphin county, to sell certain real property therein mentioned. WHEREAS it appears to the legislature, that in pursuance of two several acts of the general assembly of this commonwealth, one of which was passed on the twenty-eighth day of March, in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and six, and the other, on the fourth day of March, in the year following, a plantation or tract of land situate in Swatara township, in Dauphin county, was purchased by the directors of the poor of said county, for the purpose in the said acts mentioned, on which said tract of land there is a grist mill erected; and whereas it appears that a considerable portion of the purchase money of said tract of land is yet unpaid by the said directors, and that the rents and profits of the said mill are insufficient to discharge the interest annually accruing on the same: Therefore, SECT. I. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the directors of the poor of Dauphin county be authorized to sell, either at auction or by private sale, the mill aforesaid, together with such part of said plantation or tract of land, not to exceed twenty-five acres in the whole, and also together with such right to the use of the said stream turning the said mill as the said directors may deem necessary, to the reasonable use and enjoyment of the same, and to apply the proceeds of such sale ing the proceeds to the payment of such part of the purchase money as yet remains unpaid. An ACT to authorize the continuance of the Court of Quarter Sessions of the Peace for the county of Cumberland, beyond the time to which the said court is now restricted. SECT. I. BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That from and after the passing of this act, the judges of the court of quarter sessions of the peace, for the county of Cumberland, shall be and they are hereby authorized and empowered to continue the sessions of the said court during the whole term of the court of common pleas of said county, or so many days thereof as they may deem necessary to finish the business in the said court of quarter sessions, any former law to the contrary notwithstanding. ASUPPLEMENT to the act entitled "An act for incorporating the Society formed for the relief of distressed and decayed pilots, their widows and children." WHEREAS the society heretofore by law incorporated for the relief of distressed and decayed pilots, their widows and children, have requested the interposition of the legislature to alter and amend the act of incorporation to which this act is a supplement, for the better security of their funds and the greater facility in the transaction of their business: Therefore, perty, belonging the relief of de majority of the managers. tances, mortga ges, &c. to be executed by a majority of them, SECT. 1. And be it further enacted by the authority aforesaid, That Isaac Ivans, Benjamin Wright, and John Comfort, are hereby appointed the present trustees, who, and their successors duly elected according to this act, shall attend to the banks and sluice at the river, and keep them in repair, shall ascertain the expenses, and apportion them among the members, and until it shall be otherwise directed by the company, they shall call on each member to work out his, her or their portion of the expenses; Provided, The nature of the work, and the urgency of the case will admit, the same shall see that the drains are properly opened, and in case of the neglect or refusal of any member, to remove obstructions, to remove the same at his, her or their expense; and should such member neglect or refuse to make payment, to sue for and recover the same, and all other monies which shall become due to the company, as other debts of the same amount are recoverable, and cause a survey and valuation of the said marsh to be made, when directed so to do by the company. |
