RESOLUTIONS.

No. 1.

Resolution

Relative to the election of United States Senator.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That for the purpose of filling the vacancy in the United States, Senate, occasioned by the resignation of William Wilkins, the members of both Houses will assemble in the chamber of the House of Representatives on Saturday the sixth instant at the hour of twelve, and then and there elect a Senator to represent this State in the Senate of the United States, and that the elec tion be held and conducted in the manner prescribed by the act entitled "An act to prescribe the times, places and manner of choosing Senators to represent this State in the Senate of the United States," passed the fifth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and two, provided that the nominations made by either House shall be reported to the other House at least two days previous to the said election.

No. 2.

Resolution

Relative to the Meadville Arsenal.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met. That the occupancy of such part of the State Arsenal, situate al Meadville, in the county of Crawford, as is not in use be, and the same is hereby temporally granted to the trustees of Al

gheny College in said county, for the purposes of education as connected with said institution: Provided, That the Adjutant General shall by writing addressed to the said trustees, designate what part of the building shall necessarily be retained for the storage and preservation of such public property as is at this time, or as may from time to time hereafter be deposited there: And provided further, That the possession of the same, shall be re-delivered to the Adjutant General at any time he shall think proper, within fifteen days after he shall demand the same: And provided further. That the trustrees of said college, shall be accountable to the Commonwealth for any damages which may be done to the said Arsenal, or public property deposited in the same, in consequence of its being so occupied by the students. Resolution

Relative to the books in the Recorder's office of Bradford county.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That all books of record which may hereafter be required for the use of recording of deeds in and for the county of Bradford, and also all books which have been furnished for that purpose by the present recorder of deeds of that county, shall be paid for by orders drawn by the commissioners of said county upon the Freasurer thereof.

Resolutions

Relative to the publie lands granted to Erie county.

Resolved the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That the commissioners of the county of Erie, be empowered to rent for any tine not exceeding five years, the one hundred acres of land granted by an act passed the eighth day of April, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-three, to the coun ty of Erie, for the use of a poor house for said county; and that they apply the proceeds as directed by a resolution, passed the fifteenth of April, cne thousand eight hundred and thirty-four.

Resolved, That the said commissioners apply the rents, is sues and profits arising from the land in Erie county, of which Rufus 3. Reed, of the borough of Erie, was appointed commis sioner, by a resolution passed the twenty-first day of February, one thousand cight hundred and thirty-four, towards the im provement and erection of proper and suitable buildings on the aforesaid poor house tract: rovided, That the lease of said tract known as Garrison tract, shall be made to expire at any time the same shall be required for the purposes for which it was granted to the United States.

Resolution

Relative to the claim of James and Ethrington Appleton.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly mut, That the canal commissioners be and they are hereby authorized to settle and adjust the claims of James and Ethrington Appletcn, late contractors on the State works, and make them such allowance for work they have done at the Allegheny tunnel, and on section seven of the Portage rail-road as may appear equita

ble and just under their contract, and the Auditor General is hereby authorized to audit the same in the way and manner other claims are presented and audited.

Resolution

Relative to George W. Henry, a contractor on the Pennsylvania rail-road.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly me!, That the canal commissioners be, and they are hereby authorized to settle and adjust the claims of George W. Henry, late contractor on the eastern division of the Allegheny portage rail-road, and make him such allowance for the timber furnished by him, of the dimensions of six by eight inches square and over fifty thousand feet, as may appear equitable and just; and the Auditor General is hereby authorized to audit the same in the same way and manner other claims are presented and audited. Resolutions

For the relief of Rankin and Armstrong, and John and Robert Knox, contractors on the Lycoming line, Pennsylvania canal.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That the canal commissioners be and they are hereby authorized

to settle and adjust the claims of Rankin and Armstrong, contractors for constructing aqueduct No. 1 on the Lycoming line, Pennsylvania canal under their contract, upon principles of justice and equity, and the Auditor General is hereby authorized to audit the same in the way and manner other claims are presented and audited.

Resolved, That the canal commissioners be and they are hereby authorized to examine and adjust the claims of John and Robert Knox, contractors for building an aqueduct over Larris creek, on the Lycoming line Pennsylvania canal, under their contract, upon principles of justice and equity, and the Auditor General is hereby authorized to audit the same in the way and manner other claims are presented and audited.

Resolution

Relative to the claim of James Mackey.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in General Assembly met, That the Canal Commissioners, be and they are hereby authori zed and required to cause to be constructed such a device as in their judgment shall be most expedient for the protection of the land of James Mackey, of Clinton township, Lycoming county, against the action of the water of the river Susquehanna upon the same, below the Muncy dam, if upon examination they shall find the said dam is the cause of the new action of the water and of washing away the bank of said land.
