This book proves nothing of the kind. It’s full of misleading statements.
What I particularly take umbrage about is the suggestion that Eleanor did not take the veil of another order was because
she was married. The fact that one didn’t happen is not proof of the other.
I can think of at least three alternative reason’s why it did not happen. Firstly under Third Order Rules no Catholic can be a member of another order and cannot move to another without grave issue. Or maybe she didn’t fancy she convent life - it’s not for all and convent school was bad enough.. Maybe she was happy enough to continue as she was in common with her Italian counterpart la pinzochera. Or maybe because she died fairly young her health wasn’t up to it.
More to the point how could Eleanor have become a mendicant tertiary in the first place? Under Third Order rules at the time no married women could do so without the permission of her husband so how could Eleanor have pulled that one off without letting the cat out of the bag at the same time?
