'Thoughts of Divines and Philosophers." John Murray now unbends, and extends his distinguished patronage to the office in Took's Court, where a part of Barrow's "Iceland" is composed, and several splendid impressions are struck for it from ten woodcuts.

The learned Antonio Panizzi was, in 1837, appointed "Keeper of Printed Books" at the British Museum. For this celebrated librarian Nephew Whittingham printed in successive years a number of small but important works. Edward Moxon, the husband of Charles Lamb's adopted daughter, Emma Isola, was then well established at his house in Dover Street, and publishing there the works of the Banker Bard, who kept a businesslike watch upon the manufacture of his books. This shrewd supervision brought Samuel Rogers himself to Took's Court, where the "Notes Notes" to

his "Italy Italy" were on the press in 1843. Rogers was so well satisfied with the result that for the remainder of his life he intrusted Whittingham with his printing. Although Moxon was the publisher, the printing account was against Rogers, who regularly drew his own checks for the amount. Rogers would drive up to Took's Court for his proof-sheets, and when he had corrected them at St. James' Place he would drive again to the printing-office, where, as the compositors said, "he stirred up everybody with a long stick."
