CAMBRIDGE LEGAL ESSAYS WRITTEN IN HONOUR OF AND PRESENTED TO DOCTOR BOND, PROFESSOR BUCKLAND By G. G. ALEXANDER, J. H. BEALE, W. HEFFER & SONS LTD. PETTY CURY, CAMBRIDGE To DOCTOR HENRY BOND PROFESSOR WILLIAM WARWICK BUCKLAND AND PROFESSOR COURTNEY STANHOPE KENNY this volume of Essays written and CAMBRIDGE, JANUARY 1926. 339151 PRINTED IN ENGLAND. PREFACE. THE sub-title of this volume goes far towards abbreviating any preface, but one or two explanations and acknowledgments remain necessary. The articles are printed in a sequence fixed by an alphabetical list of the contributors. No hard and fast style of reference to text-books or to law reports has been adopted, though consistency in each separate article has been aimed at in this respect. Mr. H. A. Hollond, of Trinity College, who was one of those originally concerned in the project which has now taken shape, has expressed to us the great regret with which, owing to unforeseen work as Secretary to the University Commissioners, he has been obliged to abandon his intention of contributing an article. The editors wish to express their gratitude to Mr. T. Ellis Lewis, of Gonville and Caius College, for relieving them of the essential but thankless task of constructing the index, and to the publishers for their assiduous and courteous co-operation in the production of the book.
