How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes,

Nor regardeth the rich more than the poor?
For they all are the work of his hands.

Far be it from God, that he should do wickedness;

And from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

For the work of a man shall he render unto him,

And cause every man to find according to his ways.

Yea, surely God will not do wickedly,
Neither will the Almighty pervert judg-

ment.

Psalm

cxlv. 17.

What mean ye, that ye use this proverb Ezekiel concerning the land of Israel, saying,

The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and

the children's teeth are set on edge ?

Ye shall not have occasion any more

As I live, saith the Lord GOD,

To use this proverb in Israel.

Behold, all souls are mine;

As the soul of the father, so also the soul

of the son is mine:

The soul that sinneth, it shall die.

The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father,

Neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son:

The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him,

And the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

xviii. 2.

[blocks in formation]

The Prosperity of the

Wicked no Valid Objection to the Righteousness of God.

If the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed,

And keep all my statutes, and do that
which is lawful and right,

He shall surely live-he shall not die.
But when the righteous turneth away from
his righteousness,

And committeth iniquity,

And doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth,

Shall he live ?

All his righteousness that he hath done
shall not be mentioned:

In his trespass that he hath trespassed,
And in his sin that he hath sinned,

In them shall he die.

Congregation.

The LORD our God is righteous in all his works which he doeth.

Righteous art thou, O LORD, when I plead Jeremiah

with thee:

Yet let me talk with thee of thy judg

ments:

Wherefore doth the way of the wicked prosper ?

Wherefore are all they happy that deal very treacherously ?

Thou hast planted them-yea, they have
taken root:

They grow-yea, they bring forth fruit:
Thou art near in their mouth,

And far from their reins.

The tabernacles of robbers prosper,
And they that provoke God are secure.

There are no bands in their death:
But their strength is firm.

They are not in trouble as other men;
Neither are they plagued like other men.
Therefore pride compasseth them about as
a chain;

Violence covereth them as a garment.

They have more than heart could wish.
They are corrupt, and speak wickedly con-
cerning oppression:

The End of

the Wicked illustrating the Righteousness of God.

[blocks in formation]

Knowest thou not this of old,

Since man was placed upon earth,

That the triumphing of the wicked is short, And the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

Though his excellency mount up to the heavens,

And his head reach unto the clouds ;

Yet he shall perish for ever:

They which have seen him shall say, Where

is he?

He shall fly away as a dream, and shall not be found:

Yea, he shall be chased away as a vision of the night.

Riches profit not in the day of wrath.

Is better than the riches of many wicked.

When the wicked spring as the grass,
And when all the workers of iniquity do
flourish;

It is that they shall be destroyed for ever.
I have seen the wicked in great power,
And spreading himself like a green bay tree.
Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not:
Yea, I sought him, but he could not be
found.

Mark the perfect man, and behold the
upright:

For the end of that man is peace.

The end of the wicked shall be cut off.

Beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, 2 Peter that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Congregation.

He hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness.

Minister.

Then shall ye return, and discern
Between the righteous and the wicked,
Between him that serveth God

And him that serveth him not.

We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
