DEVON AND EXETER, 1844.

FIRST DAY.-The twenty-first year of the Devonshire Stakes of 20 sov. each, 10 ft. and only 5 if declared to Mr Weatherby, in London, or Mr Brutton, in Exeter, in due time. No non-subscriber to have more than one nomination given to him, and no subscriber more than two. The taker of a nomination remaining in will have to pay the 10 sov. should he not start, and 20 sov. if he does; the second horse to save his stake. Four to accept, or no race; the winner of any stake exceeding 1501. after the handicap is fixed to carry 5lb. extra for each time of such winning.

To close and name to Mr Weatherby, in London, on the Monday after Ascot, and the weights to be fixed as soon after as possible; two miles.

A forced Handicap of 2 sov. each, with 25 added by the Tradesmen of Exeter, for the beaten horses; heats, the New mile.

No public money will be given (except the first class of the Home stakes) if less than three horses start, unless the consent of the Stewards be given to the starting of two.

In all the weight for age stakes and plates mares and geldings allowed 4lb.

No persons, or their confederates, who have been, or shall be detected running horses under false denominations, will be allowed to start or ride a horse at these races.
